Between consults, performing surgery and essentially being on-call 24-7 to answer any questions patients may have while recovering, plastic surgeons rarely have a day off. If you’ve ever wondered what they do when they’re able to carve out a little time for themselves, Dr. S. Alexander Earle of Miami’s Pure Plastic Surgery shares the spots you’re most likely to find him when he’s not in the OR.
Working out…
“I do Orangetheory Fitness (OTF) because it gives a great combination of high-intensity interval training and strength training. It’s a different workout every time which keeps it interesting. I also like that you get a report after every workout that tells you how many calories you burned.”
Personal maintenance…
“I go to The Spot Barbershop because it gives a classic barbershop experience. I can get a beard trim or a traditional razor shave with hot lather and hot towel. Also, they offer free drinks while you wait!”
Court time…
“I enjoy going to the Salvadore Park Tennis Center in Coral Gables. I am not very good, but it’s a great way to unwind while being active, and enjoy some friendly competition.”
The beach…
“Living in Miami, I have a lot of options, but my favorite location is South Pointe in South Beach. Being near the ocean and hearing the waves helps me relax and put everything back in perspective. I also love rock climbing on the pier with my kids.”
At home…
“When I’m not out and about, you’ll find me at Alex’s Delirium Tremens Bar—this is the name I gave my outdoor kitchen, otherwise known as my sanctuary. Besides the OR, there is no place I rather be. I love spending time with my family, grilling up something delicious and listening to great music. Oh, and I have a kegerator out there as well!”
