Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is a rather novel treatment that has largely been lauded for its revitalizing faculties – both when it comes to physical health and beauty. Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian West and Bar Rafaeli as well as athletes in the ranks of Rafael Nadal and Tiger Woods have had PRP procedures. To find out more about PRP and its effects, Haute Beauty turned to Dr. Jhonny Salomon, who offers the method at his Plastic Surgery & Med Spa practices.

How is PRP extracted and what is the process of preparing and applying PRP injections?
The process is rather simple. Your medical professional will extract a sample of blood, the quantity does vary depending on the locations being treated. The extracted blood is placed into a centrifuge, which separates the blood components. The separated plasma is what is prepared and used for the PRP injections.

PRP can be used both for skin rejuvenation and hair growth. How does PRP act for both?
Platelet Rich Plasma is known for its incredible wound healing properties. By injecting PRP into damaged tissues, the PRP stimulates the regrowth of new and healthy cells resulting in the most natural results for both face and hair.

Is there anything that patients should do to prepare for a PRP procedure?

As with any procedure, it’s important that you care for your body in the weeks leading up to your treatment. I recommend that patients abstain from alcohol consumption and smoking for at least a week prior to their PRP procedure. The better condition your body is in prior to the procedure, the better your results will be.

What are the usual symptoms immediately after a procedure? Could there be any side effects?
Most people are able to resume their daily activities immediately after their procedure. Depending on the area being injected, it may be recommended that your rest the area at least for 24 hours.

How many procedures should patients undergo before they see results? How long do results last?
Most patients begin to see results after the second treatment. Depending on the area being treated, we typically recommend that patients undergo 2 – 6 treatments administered one month apart.

What are the PRP benefits compared to other skin and hair treatments?
PRP surpasses other treatments due to the fact that it’s a procedure created from the natural production of platelets in your blood. Injecting PRP into the damaged tissues essentially expedites your body’s natural healing process, which is very different than other treatments being used.
