Emanuele Fiore: Pro Grooming Tips From A Male Model

Wellness February 25, 2016 By Zoe Bullock

unnamedEmanuele Fiore, the New York City based male model who boasts an impressive resume of brands including Mont Blanc, Giorgio Armani, and L’Oreal, was born in Torino, Italy. At 19, he moved to Milan to start modeling. Since then, Emanuele has traveling to the most stunning locations on earth and has lived in London, Paris, Miami, Tokyo, and New York City, while pursuing his career. Emanuele credits his look to a good dose of moderation, a love of sports and athletics, and hard work and commitment to his job and to the modeling business. Here, Emanuele shares his biggest advice and beauty secrets for men and his experiences in the business.

Can you tell me a little bit about yourself?
I have been a model for almost ten years. Although I didn’t realize that you could make a living as a male model at the time, I guess that I was discovered as a teenager. When I was fifteen, I started participating in and winning some beauty competitions, which introduced me to some managers. I arrived in Milan at 19 years old, with the best modeling agency in Italy at the time. After that, I met managers from all over the world and I created my network.

What are some of your biggest campaigns, editorials, and shows to date?
Most recently, I did the Mont Blanc worldwide campaign. I am very excited about it coming out in March, with billboards everywhere worldwide. I recently also did the L’Oreal worldwide campaign. One of my favorite jobs was the Giorgio Armani print campaign and TV commercial that I did a few years ago. I was chosen from 300 guys. As far as editorials go, my favorites were my L’Official cover and my L’Uomo Vogue cover. Over the course of my career, I have done shows for all of the biggest Italian fashion brands: Giorgio Armani, Dolce Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Corneliani, and Canali, just to name a few. As far international ones, I’ve done the AMFAR gala show in New York City for 3 years now.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
I love working with young, energetic, and beautiful people, and the traveling that I have done for work. As a model, you basically get paid to go to the most stunning places on earth.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
The worst part about being a model is that there really isn’t any meritocracy in this profession. In this job, you are always depending on someone else’s decisions. If you are running a supermarket, and you order a certain type of tomato, and if no one wants to buy this type of tomato, you can stop buying that type of tomato, and buy a different variety that is more pleasing to your customer. In this scenario, you can understand your mistake is and improve on it. In the modeling business, it sometimes does not matter what you do to try to improve yourself. You can get more toned and you can change your hair color, but, at the end, you always have to convince someone else and wait for someone else’s decision.

Are you on a special diet?
Everyone always asks me about what I eat. They often just assume that I am taking some sort of protein or amino acid supplement. The truth is that one of my biggest beauty secrets is that I don’t believe in any chemical products. I am just happy and healthy with normal food. I try to eat mostly a Mediterranean diet. I am Italian, so I love pasta, pizza, and all carbs, and I am lucky to have a quick metabolism. Of course, I don’t eat too much of anything, but just a little bit of everything, even desserts. I have found that this is the best way for me to keep the right balance. When I overeat, as I sometimes do over the holidays, I do some more sports. I prefer to do more sports and eat what I want to eat, rather than to starve myself. It is even better to eat a little bit more and train a little bit more sometimes, because it can help tone the muscles.

How do you keep yourself in shape?
Ever since I was six years old, I have always done sports. One of my earliest memories is doing push ups at my grandmother’s house, working on my biceps. My grandmother made fun of me, but I have always been very aware of my physique.

My core sport has always been swimming. I swam competitively for 10 years, ever since I was a child and insisted that my mother bring me to the pool with my sister. I still swim every day for 30 minutes. I believe that swimming is the best training that a man can do for his body, giving the body a perfect shape. Swimming is also the most convenient and time-efficient sport, because, in thirty minutes, you can really get a great work out. You can move your whole body and all of your muscles. I love speed, so I am also a big fan of skiing and car racing.

During the summer, when it is warmer, I mix up my work out routine more: I run in the park, I play soccer, and I play tennis.

Do you have skincare tricks?
Every morning and night, I cleanse and moisturize. I always use the best cream for my skin, and I only use foam cleanser, never soap. Every morning and every night, I wash my face with a foam cleanser, and then I use La Prairie or La Mer face cream. I also drink a lot of water, so that my skin stays really elastic.

Do is your biggest piece of beauty advice for men?
Men are actually always asking me for beauty advice. Every time I go to an underwear casting or to the beach, they always want to know: “How do you maintain your abs?” and “How do you maintain your skin?” Honestly, I have had abs since I was 11 years old. I am genetically gifted, but I have done a good job in maintaining my abs.

This is my secret: half an hour of sports every day, eat a little bit of everything, and never get your body used to chemical products. Don’t smoke and don’t drink. Don’t party too much. Have a happy, healthy, enjoyable life.
