Embarking on a journey to achieve your desired body goals can sometimes pose challenges, even for those who maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. At The Nathan Clinic in Miami, Florida, we specialize in delivering the results you aspire to achieve. Our expertise includes enhanced definition, precise fat removal from areas like the flanks and lower belly, and the art of subtle abdominal etching. While genetics and lifestyle significantly influence your body’s composition, our state-of-the-art liposuction techniques and instrumentation can help you conquer stubborn fat deposits.
Prior to your liposuction surgery, it’s crucial to consider several important factors to ensure a successful and safe experience. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you prepare:
Transportation Arrangements
It’s highly recommended to arrange for a responsible individual to drive you home after the liposuction procedure. While you may not need extensive assistance, having someone available to help you get in and out of the car and provide overnight care is essential for your safety. Note that for-hire transportation services such as taxis, Uber, Lyft, or buses are not permitted following procedures that involve sedation at The Nathan Clinic. Patients should rely on their arranged driver for transportation.
Selecting an Overnight Caregiver
Your chosen caregiver, in addition to being your driver, should be someone you trust and feel comfortable with. They should be capable of assisting you with tasks such as walking, standing, sitting, dressing, and using the restroom.
Medications, Vitamins, and Herbal Supplements
Inform your surgeon about all the medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are currently taking. Some of these may increase the risk of excessive bleeding. Your surgeon may recommend discontinuing or adjusting the dosage of certain medications, vitamins (e.g., K and E), and herbal supplements (e.g., Ginger, Ginkgo Biloba, Kava Kava) for ten days before and after the surgery.

Alcohol
Avoid consuming alcohol at least two days before and two days after the surgery. Alcohol can increase inflammation in the body, which can impact your recovery.
Nicotine Products
Refrain from using nicotine-containing products, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and chewing tobacco, for four weeks before and four weeks after surgery. Nicotine narrows blood vessels and hampers the body’s healing process, potentially leading to complications.
Procedure Location
The location of your procedure will depend on your specific body contouring plan. Simpler liposuction procedures may be performed at your surgeon’s clinic, while more extensive procedures or multiple surgeries may take place in a nearby surgery center or hospital. Ensure you have a designated driver accompanying you to your appointment.
Hospital Stays
If your surgery requires an overnight stay at a hospital, your surgeon will discuss this with you during the surgical planning process. Even if you stay overnight, having a designated driver is essential due to the effects of sedation.
By following these preparation guidelines, you can maximize your chances of a successful body contouring experience with Dr. Nirmal Nathan in Miami, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey toward achieving your aesthetic goals.
