Was there a personal and/or professional experience that inspired you to open your practice?
From my mid-teens, it was my dream to one day become a plastic surgeon. Little did I know that this ember would kindle into a lifelong aspiration, leading me to where I stand today. The vision of opening my own practice was etched in my heart, a beacon that guided me through the years. Prior to this, as a child, I was really thinking about becoming an artist. In classrooms throughout grade school and high school, I was the one lost in sketching, and art was my sanctuary. For Christmas when I was 12, when other kids wanted video consoles and games, at the top of my Christmas list was an art drafting table and stool. Each semester of high school and college, including every summer, was filled with 4-credit art classes.
One day, contemplating life’s myriad paths at age 14, I found myself in the company of Dr. Michael Corrado, an esteemed infectious disease specialist in the Philadelphia area. I told him I was thinking about becoming a doctor, but I didn’t know what kind I would want to be. The two questions he asked me next, as he crafted a sandwich at the kitchen counter, would change my life forever. “Are you any good at art? Can you draw?” he inquired. My reply was immediate—“Yes! I’m very good at art!” He casually offered: “You should be a plastic surgeon; you’ll be good at it.” The sky seemed to spell out my destiny. The path was clear—I was destined to be a plastic surgeon, blending the worlds of medicine and art. As far as I was concerned, it was a done deal.
From that profound moment onward, every decision I made was calibrated toward this goal. Science courses intertwined with art classes, nurturing both my scientific knowledge and artistic prowess. A mosaic of 16 years of schooling following my high school graduation, including residency and fellowship, culminated in the realization of my dream. Dr. Corrado had set me on this trajectory, and my unwavering dedication kept me on course.
In this journey, I discovered a truth: the artistic skills honed over the years made me not just a plastic surgeon, but a craftsman of unique creations. Each surgery I perform is akin to painting a masterpiece—a testament to my passion and proficiency. Today, I share this insight with my patients, telling them that their scalp is my canvas, and their transformations are my masterworks.
Opening my practice was a natural progression of a childhood dream. Each day, I step into the realm I envisioned at 14, fulfilling aspirations that have shaped my existence. It’s a symphony of art and science, a manifestation of aspirations nurtured since adolescence.
What was your mission at the start of opening your practice? Has it changed?
In 2003, after completing my fellowship in facial plastic & reconstructive surgery at the University of Michigan, destiny led me to the captivating realm of hair restoration surgery. I discovered the field in 2003, when the technology had just changed from the pluggy, doll-hair appearance of hair transplants from a generation ago to the undetectable hair-by-hair transplants we are familiar with today. The profound impact of this discovery resonated within me, guiding my decision to dedicate my entire career to this specialized facet of facial plastic surgery. Over the span of two decades, my unwavering focus has been on catering exclusively to those grappling with hair loss, employing both surgical and non-surgical remedies. Unlike an all-encompassing practice where many different types of cosmetic surgery are offered, my aspiration was to master a single area, becoming a global authority. Early in my journey, I gleaned invaluable insights from other practitioners, assimilating their best practices.
My early days were marked by humble learning, soaking up the insights of distinguished colleagues, each contributing to the mosaic of my expertise. In 2003 I joined the practice of two acknowledged masters and pioneers in the field in Beverly Hills, California, Drs. Bob Bernstein and Bill Rassman. The year 2008 saw my journey evolve further as Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia entrusted me to helm an academic hair restoration surgery practice within the esteemed Emory Department of Facial Plastic Surgery. But my true purpose awaited, culminating in the establishment of the Anderson Center for Hair in 2011. Guided by a clear vision, my mission was to craft a sanctuary offering the most cutting-edge surgical and non-surgical interventions for hair loss, underpinned by unparalleled customer service. I handpicked a team of seasoned experts, driven by shared values of ethics and excellence.
Since its inception, the Anderson Center for Hair has steadfastly adhered to its founding ideals. Our legacy is one of passion, expertise, and an unwavering dedication to delivering the most effective treatments for hair loss, combined with ethical and platinum-level care.

If you had to pick three words to describe the vibe of The Anderson Center for Hair?
The three words that encapsulate the very essence of our practice—focused, professional, and sophisticated—resonate deeply with the core values that guide us at the Anderson Center for Hair.
“Focused” reflects our unwavering commitment to a singular purpose: the treatment of hair loss in men and women. Our practice was born out of a passion for this specialized field, and over the past two decades, it’s this laser focus that has set the trajectory for every decision we make. Unlike most practices that offer hair transplant surgery, it is not one of many items on a long list of cosmetic surgery offered to patients. By concentrating solely on hair restoration surgery, we are able to hone our expertise, continuously innovate, and provide the most advanced solutions for our patients.
“Professional” is a cornerstone of our identity. From the moment a patient enters our practice to the completion of their journey, professionalism underscores every interaction. Our team consists of highly trained experts who approach each procedure with meticulous precision and the utmost respect for our patients’ well-being. The team at Anderson Center for Hair has a combined 175 years of experience in the field of hair restoration surgery, making us one of the most experienced practices in the world. Selecting the name “Anderson Center for Hair” was a decision rooted in our practice’s identity, values, and the core mission we set out to achieve. The name not only resonates with our specialized focus on hair restoration but also encapsulates the ethos that defines us.
The name “Anderson” pays tribute to our founder, Dr. Ken Anderson, MD, FISHRS, a visionary facial plastic surgeon who brought a unique blend of artistry and medical expertise to the practice. This name carries with it the legacy of our commitment to transforming lives through the convergence of artistic finesse and surgical precision.
“Center” holds a dual significance—it signifies our role as a hub of excellence in the field of hair restoration, a trusted destination for those seeking transformative solutions. It also symbolizes the focal point of our approach—the patient. Our practice revolves around understanding the individual needs of each patient and tailoring treatments to their unique circumstances.
“Hair,” quite simply, is at the heart of our specialization. This word reflects the core of our mission—to provide comprehensive, effective solutions for individuals dealing with hair loss. It encapsulates our dedication to offering a range of surgical and non-surgical treatments that empower our patients to regain their confidence and sense of self.
In essence, the name “Anderson Center for Hair” was a conscious choice that embodies our practice’s essence—focused expertise, professional integrity, and a sophisticated blend of science and art. What are the most popular services requested?
At the Anderson Center for Hair, we understand the diverse needs of individuals dealing with hair loss. As such, we offer a range of treatments that have gained immense popularity due to their effectiveness and tailored approach.
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) stands out as a leading surgical treatment. This technique involves harvesting individual hair follicles from the donor area and transplanting them to areas of thinning or baldness. The primary benefit of the FUE method of hair transplant surgery is that it does not leave a telltale linear scar through the donor area on the back and sides of the scalp. FUE offers permanent, natural results, virtually no scarring, and a quicker recovery period as compared to FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant; the traditional linear strip method), making it a sought-after option for those seeking lasting transformation.
Non-surgical options are equally favored, with Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy being a standout choice. PRP involves harnessing the healing properties of the patient’s own blood to stimulate hair follicles and promote growth. This approach is valued for its non-invasiveness, minimal downtime, and its ability to enhance hair density.
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is another popular non-invasive treatment offered at our practice. Utilizing specialized lasers, LLLT stimulates blood circulation in the scalp and encourages hair follicles to regrow. This convenient and comfortable option has gained popularity due to its ability to promote hair growth without surgery or discomfort.
Our practice also offers medical treatments such as Finasteride and Minoxidil. These FDA-approved medications are designed to slow down hair loss progression and promote regrowth. They are often recommended in combination with other treatments to achieve comprehensive results.
In conclusion, the most popular treatments for hair loss at the Anderson Center for Hair range from advanced surgical techniques like FUE to non-surgical options like PRP and LLLT, along with FDA-approved medical solutions. Our approach is centered on providing personalized treatments that cater to the unique needs and goals of each patient.

What is the future of your field?
The future of hair restoration surgery is poised for a revolutionary shift, driven by the transformative potential of regenerative medicine. This emerging field is positioned to reshape the landscape of hair loss treatment, offering innovative approaches that go beyond traditional methods.
Regenerative medicine holds the promise of addressing hair loss at its root cause, offering solutions that stimulate natural hair regrowth and rejuvenation. Stem cell therapy, a prominent avenue of exploration, harnesses the body’s own regenerative capabilities. Stem cells have the remarkable ability to transform into various cell types, including those found in hair follicles. Researchers are investigating ways to activate dormant hair follicles and stimulate their growth using stem cells, ultimately leading to more enduring and natural-looking results. Currently, exosome therapy, a closely related treatment, is available at Anderson Center for Hair. In the simplest of terms, exosomes are microscopic droplets of fat that contain powerful human growth factors. While exosomes and stem cells have distinct characteristics and functions, they are closely related in the context of regenerative medicine. Stem cells release exosomes, and these exosomes contain bioactive molecules and growth factors, which play a crucial role in cell-to-cell communication and hair follicle regeneration. The exosome treatments at Anderson Center for Hair do not involve stem cells and there is no living cellular material involved in the treatments.
Tissue engineering is another groundbreaking aspect of regenerative medicine in hair restoration. Bioengineered hair follicles are being developed to provide sustainable solutions for hair loss. These engineered follicles have the potential to recreate the natural growth process of hair, promising seamless integration and improved aesthetic outcomes.
Furthermore, advancements in 3D bioprinting technology are set to transform the field. This innovative approach allows for the precise arrangement of cells and biomaterials, creating microenvironments conducive to hair follicle growth and transplantation. The convergence of regenerative medicine and bioprinting holds the potential to revolutionize the precision and effectiveness of hair restoration procedures.
In conclusion, the future of hair restoration surgery is intertwined with regenerative medicine, offering patients transformative solutions that address hair loss at its core. Stem cell therapy, exosome treatments, tissue engineering, and 3D bioprinting are set to redefine the possibilities of hair restoration, empowering individuals to achieve enduring results and regain their self-confidence.

Any new services you’re eager to offer or an underrated service you feel should get more recognition?
The Anderson Center for Hair is at the forefront of a revolutionary approach to hair restoration, leveraging the remarkable potential of exosomes and platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Stem cell treatments for hair loss are not yet FDA-approved, so at this time, they are not offered. However, exosomes and PRP treatments are cutting-edge therapies that offer individuals suffering from hair loss and balding a renewed chance at regaining not only their hair but also their self-confidence.
Exosomes, tiny vesicles released by cells, contain an array of bioactive molecules crucial for cellular communication and hair follicle regrowth. In the realm of hair restoration surgery, exosomes have emerged as powerful messengers capable of reawakening dormant hair follicles, stimulating growth, and rejuvenating existing follicles. By tapping into the regenerative power of exosomes, the Anderson Center for Hair is pioneering a new era in hair restoration that is not only transformative but also aligns with the body’s natural processes.
Complementing the exosome approach is the strategic use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a concentrated solution derived from the patient’s own blood. PRP is rich in growth factors and other bioactive substances that promote tissue repair and regeneration. When injected into the scalp, PRP can stimulate hair follicles, enhance blood circulation, and create an optimal environment for hair growth. This holistic approach addresses hair loss at its core, offering patients not only aesthetic benefits but also promoting scalp health and rejuvenation. Both exosome and PRP treatments take about an hour and do not involve actual surgery; they’re simply a painless series of injections into the scalp in the areas affected by hair loss. Patients often immediately return to work after such treatments, much as one would after a dental cleaning.
At the Anderson Center for Hair, our commitment to innovation is matched only by our dedication to personalized care. Each treatment plan is meticulously tailored to the individual’s unique needs, ensuring that the synergy of exosomes and PRP is harnessed to its fullest. With a focus on safety, effectiveness, and transformative outcomes, our center stands as a beacon of hope for those seeking to restore their hair and regain their self-assurance.
