Hair loss is a common concern that affects millions of people worldwide, and finding effective treatments has been a long-standing challenge. However, recent years have seen the emergence of a promising therapy – Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy for hair restoration. At Chicago H Med Spa, PRP therapy for hair restoration is a popular and effective treatment option.

What is PRP Therapy?

PRP hair restoration is a state-of-the-art medical procedure that utilizes the patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth without the need for surgery. This treatment involves extracting and processing the plasma from the patient’s blood, which is rich in growth factors that stimulate hair follicle growth and enhance hair density. This innovative therapy not only encourages the growth of new hair follicles but also thickens existing hair and increases overall hair density on the scalp.

Platelets are tiny particles found in our bloodstream that play several roles in our bodies. In cases of injury involving bleeding, platelets are the first line of defense to stop the bleeding. They also act as nature’s antibiotics, which is why antibiotics are often not required for minor cuts and scrapes. Moreover, they aid in the healing of injured tissue, such as muscles, tendons, and ligaments, by releasing proteins that promote the healing process. The proteins produced by platelets number in the hundreds, and it has been discovered that different injured structures require different concentrations of PRP. For instance, scientific research has demonstrated that a PRP concentration of about six times the normal concentration is optimal for tendon repair, while higher or lower concentrations can be harmful to healing.

Is PRP safe and effective?

PRP therapy has been used in medical settings for over two decades to aid healing in sports injuries and orthopedic surgeries. Its application in hair restoration is a relatively new development but has already shown promising results. The PRP therapy procedure is safe and minimally invasive, typically taking less than an hour to complete. Patients can resume their regular activities immediately after the treatment.

How long does it take to see results?

PRP therapy is a process that requires multiple sessions over several weeks to achieve the best results. At Chicago H Med Spa, we typically recommend between 3-5 sessions, with each treatment spaced about 6 weeks apart. This approach allows for optimal stimulation of hair growth and improved hair density.

Who is a candidate for PRP Therapy?

While PRP therapy is generally safe and well-tolerated, not everyone is eligible for the treatment. Patients with certain medical conditions, such as blood disorders or infections, may not be suitable for this treatment.

Can it be used in combination with other treatments?

PRP therapy can also be used in combination with other hair restoration treatments like hair transplant surgery or topical hair growth products to achieve the best possible results.
