The advent of Alma TED has revolutionized the field of hair restoration, offering a non-surgical, non-invasive solution to hair loss that delivers natural-looking results. This cutting-edge technology has been developed to address the growing demand for hair restoration treatments that are safe, effective, and accessible to a wide range of patients. Here Haute Beauty expert Dr. Dina D. Strachan of Aglow Dermatology explores the benefits and limitations of Alma TED to bring your luscious locks back to life!

How Alma TED Works

TED stands for transepidermal drug delivery. The Alma TED works by using ultrasound to create microchannels in the skin through which it then delivers the drug. During the treatment, a dose of standardized growth factors are delivered to the hair follicles to stimulate hair growth.

Conditions Alma TED Can Treat

At the moment Alma TED is FDA-cleared for the treatment of male and female pattern hair loss, also known as androgenetic alopecia. Much like other medications and devices approved for this indication, the Alma TED is also used for other types of hair loss. The technology has the potential to be used for other problems that could be treated with transepidermal drug delivery.

Treatment Time

The typical treatment takes about 25 minutes, and results can start as soon as after the first session. However, it is generally recommended to undergo three treatments. Treatments should occur monthly until complete, and no specific follow-up is required other than coming in to complete the series of treatments. Before treatment, ensure that hair is clean and dry, and avoid using any hair products. After treatment, refrain from washing the hair for 24 hours.

Potential Risks and Side Effects

Unlike PRP, which involved blood draws and needle delivery, the Alma TED is needle-free and pain-free. There is some ringing during the procedure.
