Many people have heard of microneedling but what is it actually? When the skin’s wear and tear begin to build and natural collagen production begins to slow, the aging of our skin becomes apparent. Whether it’s the acne scars and stretch marks, or wrinkles and sagging, aging is an inevitable part of life. Although it may not be the most glamorous time, there are many ways to pamper and revamp the skin allowing it to glow once again. Experts at At Xanadu Med Spa offer collagen P.I.N. microneedling to rejuvenate skin cells and treat skin aging; here are the details.

What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a procedure that, hence the name, uses tiny needles. Carefully controlled and overseen by trained experts, the needles are lightly pricked to create micro-wounds on the skin’s surface. By intentionally breaking the skin, it encourages the natural regeneration and reparation of itself.

The repair is an ongoing process. Not only does it create a brand new look for the skin, ridding it of blemishes but it also encourages the production of new collagen and elastin for up to a year after treatment to continually keep the skin looking firm, fresh and healthy.

Compared to other skin treatments, microneedling is considerably much less invasive and damaging which yields quick results and allows minimal recovery. Most patients experience noticeable results shortly following their first treatment, providing significant encouragement around their individual skin health.

How it Works

Experts at Xanadu Med Spa conduct a Percutaneous Collagen Induction Therapy or PCIT procedure, consisting of an automated microneedling device. Compared to other treatment styles, PCIT is a flexible technique customized to the patient’s own skin and needs.

The incisions are often paired with a topical serum to ease the tension of the needle and help the tip glide smoothly. Based on the skin’s specific needs, most serums consist of a Hyaluronic Acid base, chosen specifically for these processes due to the fact that it’s naturally produced by the skin and actually makes the overall treatment more effective.

When it comes to the actual procedure here is what to expect:

Upon arrival, although the vast majority of clients report feeling nothing at all during their treatment, a topical anesthetic is applied to clean skin, ensuring comfort throughout the procedure.

After applying for about 30 minutes, the topical serum is ready to remove and a layer of the topical Hyaluronic Acid serum is applied. To begin the treatment, a fresh micro needle cartridge will perforate the skin, continuously throughout the procedure.

Post-procedure, most people experience a slight redness in the affected areas. Luckily, this usually lasts no longer than 24 hours after the treatment and is a very normal side effect. From then on, it is important to consider how you treat the skin. Be considerate of what products are used. It may be a good idea to incorporate Mineral based products into a makeup routine.  Other products with ingredients such as retinol can help benefit the skin and stimulate the results of the procedure.

PCIT can yield visible results after just one Treatment. However, depending on specific skin needs and aesthetic goals, the number of treatments may vary. A typical treatment course spans between three and six sessions but can be adjusted and customized to the patient’s unique goals.
