Lazy. Careless. Forgetful. These are just a few misconceptions that people who suffer from ADHD get unrightfully labeled as when in fact, it’s the complete opposite. Dedicated to ADHD Awareness, the new compelling film, The Disruptors, proves this. Premiering right on time during the ADHD awareness month of October, we recognize and celebrate the 7 million US children and 23 million adults affected by ADHD.
It is all thanks to Emmy-nominated producer and Executive Producer at Happy Warrior Media, Nancy Armstrong, who shed light on the struggles and misunderstandings of ADHD. As a philanthropist, mother of three, wife to well-known executive, Tim Armstrong, and producer of this star-studded film, Nancy is about to change lives and perceptions around the world.
ADHD may be more common than we think. Today, the condition is actually one of the most commonly diagnosed-and widely misunderstood-neurological disorders in the world. Whether it is a best friend, famous celebrity, or a favorite athlete, the condition can affect numerous people in your life and you may not even know it. It can cause stress and confusion but it can also be the start of discovering a superpower.
“I made this film to fundamentally reframe what we, as a society, understand about ADHD, from a deficit/disorder model to one that is much more dimensionsional, and takes into account the inner-workings of the ADHD brain. Managed properly, ADHD can be an asset and not a liability, but diagnosis and treatment are essential. Additionally, bringing specific attention to the socioeconomic and racial disparities that exist in both diagnosis and treatment for ADHD is a key message of the film. We are failing to recognize and treat ADHD properly in many of these communities, resulting in very poor short and long-term outcomes for these children, and that’s an absolute tragedy for our country,” said Armstrong.
A growing number of innovators, entrepreneurs, CEOs, Olympic athletes, and award-winning artists have recently disclosed their diagnosis of ADHD. Not only have they owned the disorder and managed it effectively, but it has changed their lives for the better. “The diagnosis of ADHD, coupled with the various interventions we now have, can change a life—at any age—forever for the better, says Dr. Ned Hallowell, M.D., one of the country’s foremost medical experts on ADHD.
As seen in The Disruptors, are a-lister stars such as will.i.am, Paris Hilton, Ty Pennington, Howie Mandel, Jillian Michaels, Terry Bradshaw, and many more big names have shown how ADHD has played a vital role in their successes.
While diving into the lives of these ADHD advocates, the documentary itself takes an immersive approach to ADHD. In an effort to debunk the most harmful myths about the disorder, the film follows five families who suffer from ADHD. They have to face several challenges along the way but are rewarded with a number of surprising yet well-deserved triumphs while living with the condition.
