Madden opens the conversation with the recent news of his campaign with Calvin Klein. The new Defy fragrance incorporates warm, fresh, and floral elements with notes of bergamot, lavender, vetiver, and amber. Madden, the new face of the powerhouse collaboration, details, “It’s got this freshness to it that’s not too sharp… kind of a gentle, uplifting element.” He continues, “It’s got these beautiful woody notes that I feel suit me. They’re a little heavier, and it means that I can wear it in the evening and it’s not too overpowering.”
Aside from his Calvin Klein partnership, the actor shares his personal preferences for each occasion. “I love deeper, woodier smells in the winter. When I’m in Scotland, there’s often that after-rain smell, that kind of grassy smell,” he states. In the summertime, however, the performer fancies “fresher and lighters” scents. He further explains his association with summertime along the Golden Coast, “When I’m in Los Angeles, it’s much more of that warm, ocean smell that I love.”

Moving onto his beauty routine, Madden simply follows what makes him feel most clean and comfortable. His suggestions are, “Just use a good face wash and moisturize, get your sunscreen on, and put on fragrance in the morning. In the evening before you go out, you get another couple of scooches of your aftershave, and before bed just wash your face.” Beloved brands the actor references include Tom Ford and Medik8 for grooming and skincare necessities.
One aspect of skincare the actor is adamant to emphasize the importance of sun protection. He explains, “Often if I’m filming outside, I’m going to get sunburned.” Aside from sunburns, though, the usage of sunscreen also serves as a preventative measure against fine lines and skin cancer. Madden reiterates, “I’m a big advocate for making sure everyone wears sunscreen every day,” certainly a beneficial health tip for all.
Concluding his beauty talk, Madden speaks on one of his most distinctive qualities: his silver streak. The actor is known to have a grey streak of hair amidst his coiffed head that is showcased primarily for red carpet events or film premieres. He recalls, “I’m 35 years old. I’ve been going gray since I was 21.” In terms of his career, the actor adopts a wig or colors his hair for nearly every role in order to prevent a distraction from the character. As for personal preference though, Madden claims, “My vanity doesn’t really extend to the grayness of my hair.” He explains, “Every time I’ve been in a role for six or eight months, I get to see where my own hair is at the end of it. Usually, I get a little surprise of a few extra grays. That’s only going to continue, but I don’t mind.”
