Laser Vision Correction (LVC) of course! At Millennium Laser Eye Centers, we perform 3 different types of LVC procedures: LASIK, PRK, and SMILE. LASIK, an acronym for Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (meaning to shape the cornea of the eye using a laser), is one of the most exciting and advanced laser procedures for correcting nearsightedness, farsighted, and astigmatic vision. The procedure is quick and painless, and statistically safer than wearing contact lenses on a daily basis. If consumers only knew how safe and effective modern all-laser LASIK is, they wouldn’t hesitate to undergo this life-changing 10-minute procedure! For patients where LASIK is not an option because their corneas are thinner or their corneal scans are somewhat irregular, PRK, or photo-refractive keratectomy may still be an option. PRK was the first procedure approved for simple myopia by the FDA in 1995 and yields excellent results but entails a longer healing process than LASIK. The third laser option available for nearsighted patients is SMILE which is an acronym for Small Incision Lenticular Extraction. This all-laser corrective procedure in which a disc of tissue is painlessly sculpted and removed from the inner aspect of the cornea is currently only offered by a few advanced laser eye clinics around the country: Millennium is the leading provider of SMILE in South Florida.
