Meghan Markle has invested in a start-up wellness company, Clevr Blends.

Known for their functional lattes, Clevr Blends describes themselves as a “women-led, mission-driven wellness company”, with a goal to create accessible wellness products that contribute to a healthier planet and a more just society. Founded by Hannah Mendoza and Roger Coppola in 2019, the company began as a pop-up coffee bar in Santa Barbara, California. Clevr Blends sells what they call “SuperLattes” which are mixed with adaptogens, probiotics, and superfoods that provide brain-boosting, mind-clearing, and mood-lifting qualities.

In an interview with Marie Claire, Mendoza states that the idea for Clevr Blends came to her during a time when there was increased awareness of alternative, exotic blends that could replace caffeine usage. The purpose was to create a better alternative to an everyday regular coffee routine that included functional ingredients to optimize the body and mind, providing more focus, and less of the crash and jitters that come with drinking caffeine.

Meghan Markle reached out to Clevr Blends to discuss potentially investing after trying the company’s lattes. Clevr Blends will use the funds provided by Markle to scale up the business. Markle’s investment comes in support of passionate female entrepreneurs that prioritize building community alongside their business. She also favored Clevr Blends’ use of ethical ingredients and their holistic approach to wellness.

According to their website, Clevr Blends only sources organic or non-GMO ingredients. Their shipping materials are 100% post-consumer recycled and 100% recyclable. The company works with small, family-run ingredient suppliers and ensures that their farmers and workers are well supported. Clevr Blends is also collaborating with El Centro SB, a queer, BIPOC that led the group that focuses on regional mutual aid and community resilience.

Listed on the website are four different blends of SuperLattes: Matcha, Chai, Golden, and Coffee. Each includes its own combination of ingredients such as Ashwagandha, Lion’s Mane, Reishi, and probiotics to aid in areas such as immunity, digestion, stress reduction, brain health, focus, and memory. Buyers have the option to individually purchase each SuperLatte at $28. They can also purchase the Starter Kit for $74 or an entire bundle for $165.
