HB: What solutions do you offer to treat the double chin?

There are different solutions to treat the double chin. In our office, we find that surgically submental liposuction (with or without a neck lift) is the gold standard. Non-surgical treatment options would be Kybella injections, CoolsSculpting, or Ultherapy.

HB: What are the important things you take into consideration when treating a double chin?

Important things to consider when treating a double chin would include if the patient will end up having loose skin after. This is the number one problem with only addressing the fatty tissue of a double chin.

HB: How do the treatments work?

Submental liposuction is a surgical liposuction procedure that is outpatient. This procedure is performed once and usually bears excellent results. If someone does not wish to have surgery, then Kybella injections have given excellent results but usually requires two to three sessions of injections with a few weeks of swelling downtime. CoolSculpting also usually requires a few sessions with a week of mild swelling downtime. Ultherapy can help the appearance of a double chin by lifting the submental (upper chin) area, not by reducing fat per se in that region.

HB: What is the recovery like?

Recovery for the procedures mentioned above consists of one to two weeks of downtime. Liposuction can take four to six weeks for swelling.

HB: What is the cost?

Costs range based on the procedure and whether multiple treatments are required. There is not one standard fee but with different options available to treat this area we can find a solution that fits most patient’s needs and budgets.
