HB: What is a smile makeover like at your practice?
Our office has a philosophy on Smile Make-Overs and making these treatments custom made for each individual client. It can involve treating just one tooth, the upper teeth, lower teeth, or just the gums, or a combination of these treatments. We always evaluate our patients from the macro to the micro, focusing first on the big picture and then working our way to the minute details to get the best possible outcome.
HB: How does a smile makeover work?
It involves seeing our patients, taking records, studying the physiology of the current teeth and bite relations, and more importantly, talking with our patients to understands their desires and goals. Once we understand these crucial steps, we can design a smile that fits the patient’s smile frame, face, and more importantly their personality.
HB: Who is the best candidate for a smile makeover?
Honestly everyone. It’s for everyone that is worried about something in their smile. If there is something you would like to change in your smile, it’s a great idea to discuss this issue with your dentist. We recently had a young lady coming in and requesting porcelain veneers, and after discussing her goals and wishes, we ended up designing a new smile that only involved a gum lift. After raising her gums and contouring them properly, we exposed her beautiful teeth that were hidden her whole life and that was all that was needed. In fact, she is living her life with no dental work at all in her mouth and she couldn’t be happier.
HB: How do smile makeovers differ from general dentistry?
Smile Makeovers and Dental Facial Aesthetics is different than general dentistry in that we study the treatments and see how it works and gives esthetic balance to the face of the patient. Instead of just fixing a tooth, we are treating and designing the final outcome before we start any treatment. Dentistry is more than just fixing teeth; it’s about creating faces and smiles that are functional and beautiful.
HB: What does recovery look like?
It depends on the procedures. We are obsessed with being minimally invasive, which results in long-lasting dental work. We treat many people with Invisalign initially in getting the patient’s teeth in the right position and arch form, and we may end up doing only 2 teeth to reach our goals, instead of 10 teeth or more that may be recommended from a different dental office. With Invisalign and other dental treatment, many times you may forget your going through treatment. Usually with all treatment, if no surgery or gum work is needed, your always comfortable, and always look good, even in a temporary phase. We always have options and ways to make the treatment plans work for each of our patient’s, and we can get very creative.
