She has an interest in reconstructive as well as cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures. Dr. Keshini Parbhu takes pride in her specialization in knowing a lot about a small part of the body! The three areas of interest in oculoplastics are eyelids, lacrimal and orbital disease. She has a particular interest in upper and lower blepharoplasties, ptosis repair, eyelid reconstructions following skin cancer reconstructions, lacrimal duct reconstructions, and orbital disease.  Dr. Parbhu believes that nonsurgical procedures are important to help maintain a rejuvenated appearance and offers a wide array of services to help achieve this. She performs injectable facial rejuvenation procedures including neurotoxins, dermal fillers, Sculptra, and Kybella.  She has light and laser-based devices that address a wide array of skincare concerns including fine lines and wrinkles, skin texture and tone, scarring (including acne), stretch marks, tattoo removal, and pigmentation. She has a special interest in addressing pigmentation in all skin types including darker skin tones. Finally, she offers radiofrequency assisted lipolysis technology in the form of Accutite and Facetite as well as radiofrequency microneedling (Morpheus8). Dr. Parbhu believes that each person is unique and likes to have a collaborative approach in developing a treatment plan that is often a journey in achieving natural-appearing results.

HB: What is Sculptra?

Sculptra – injectable to help build collagen.

HB: How does Sculptra work?

Sculptra is an injectable medication composed of poly-L lactic acid that is used to help promote the body’s own collagen production.

HB: Who is a good candidate for this procedure?

Patients who want to help combat aging changes in a natural appearing way.  Collagen decreases as we get older and this helps restore that.  It takes several weeks to occur and works over the course of two years so there is not an immediate gratification as there is with fillers.

HB: How do you work with patients to achieve the desired outcome?

I have a discussion with patients about the differences between fillers and Sculptra. I love the natural and subtle slow changes of Sculptra but the patient has to be the right candidate.  If someone wants immediate gratification then fillers will be a better option at that time and then we can do Sculptra later.  Sculptra is used in some of the same areas as fillers but not all.  I really like using Sculptra in the temples, midface, nasolabial folds, marionette lines and along the jawline.  It also gives a nice glow to the skin from its collagen stimulation.

HB: Does this require more than one treatment?

Yes, I like to have patients have a series of treatments to start and then maintenance treatments once a year.  The first treatment is always two vials followed by treatments every 4 to 6 weeks.  The number of treatments is based on the number of decades of life: so a woman in her forties would need a total of four vials.  The first treatment would be two vials followed by two additional sessions with one vial.

HB: Are the results permanent?

No collagen builds over the course of two years but we lose collagen as we age so it needs to be replaced and this is why maintenance treatments are required.
What is recovery like?  I do this treatment with a combination of needles and cannula. Most patients do bruise but it can be covered with makeup the next day if needed.

HB: What is the average cost?

$700 per vial.
