HB: What is a Breast Reduction?
This is a procedure in which excess breast tissue is removed to decrease the size of the breast as well as the weight of the breast while enhancing the shape.
HB: How does this procedure work?
Breast reduction surgery is an outpatient procedure. Typically the procedure takes anywhere from about 2-4hours depending on the amount of breast tissue that needs to be removed. For smaller reductions, limited incisions can be made which also limits the scarring. An example would be a lollipop reduction in which the incision and scar is limited to a scar that looks like a lollipop that goes around the areola and extends down to the fold of the breast. For larger reductions, a reduction with an anchor scar is done. This technique allows for more breast tissue to be removed, but the tradeoff is more scarring.
