Gabrielle Union, Miranda Kerr and Mario Lopez, three talented celebrities with gorgeous smiles and the most enviable dimples. While those fortunate enough to be born with natural dimples, others are opting for Dimpleplasty to achieve the same charming aesthetic this rare feature projects. Haute Beauty sat down with board-certified Dr. Earl Stephenson to discuss the ins and outs of dimple surgery, who qualifies for the procedure, and how soon can patients see results.
Describe the dimple surgery process?
Dimples on cheeks can enhance your natural facial beauty and expression.
Today, dimples can be tastefully created or enhanced through an office procedure under local anesthesia to resemble celebrities like Jude Law, Alfred Eoch, Lauren London and Cameron Diaz. The office procedural name is a “Dimpleplasty.”
The desired natural location is determined by your anatomy coupled with your desired outcome. This area is then gently numbed, and the dimple is created from the inside of the mouth/cheek thus there aren’t any visible scars. The sutures/stitches are completely dissolvable.
What’s in it for you?
- Minimal downtime
- Short office procedure
Who qualifies for this procedure?
An ideal candidate for a Dimpleplasty is someone with good physical health. The surgery can be performed for both me and women, on all skin colors and types, and can be performed on one or both sides.
During consultation, your surgeon will go through your medical conditions and your expectations with the result of the surgery and then he/she will decide whether you are ideal to undergo a dimple creation surgery or not.
Dimpleplasty can particularly be beneficial for patients with rounder cheeks because dimple placement can break up the fullness of the cheek and lead to narrower contours.
What’s in it for you?
- Enhanced facial definition
- Immediate results
How quickly can patients see results?
It is important to note that the dimples are typically present at all times right after the procedure. The dimples may be visible even when you’re not smiling. After a few months of healing, the dimples will gradually settle into natural looking dimples. Ideally at that time, the dimple is ideally only present when smiling. Results are permanent.
What’s in it for you?
- A more inviting smile
- A boost in self-confidence
What follow-up treatments are needed?
Routine follow up visits are important to ensure proper healing and results. These visits vary from surgeon to surgeon. My evaluation of a patient’s progress at 1 week, 2 weeks, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months.
What’s in it for you?
- Continued oversight by your plastic surgeon
- Assurance of addressing your needs/concerns
