Between mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow and primer, our eyes take a serious beating every day. And, because eyes are quintessentially the window to our soul, the wear and tear on our eyes are visibly seen, especially with signs of aging. Fortunately, there are several options to reduce the signs of aging eyes and Haute Beauty rounded up the best doctors to dish on the multiple options achieving younger eyes:
Problem: Severe Eye Bags
Solution: Blepharoplasty
Dr. Divya Shokeen states that dark circles can be caused by lack of sleep, constant manipulation of the skin under the eyes secondary to allergies, genetics, and fluid retention from excessive salt or alcohol intake. Patients looking to improve dark circles and under eye bags should opt for lower eyelid surgery, also known as blepharoplasty, according to Dr. Zoumalan. This surgery reduces bagginess from the lower eyelids and removes excess skin from the upper eyelid if needed, which is also beneficial for those looking to improve droopy eyelids. Blepharoplasty is also beneficial in improving eyesight of older individuals whose sagging eyelids may obstruct their vision.
Problem: Minor Sagging Eye Area
Solution: Morpheus8
While the traditional blepharoplasty procedure targets severe eye drooping, those with minor skin sagging around the eyes should opt for a less invasive treatment. “If the problem is primarily skin, we recommend non-surgical resurfacing treatments like Morpheus8 which combines radiofrequency energy and micro-needling for skin tightening,” said Dr. Karimi
Problem: Hollowed Eye Area
Solution: HA Fillers
The appearance of having hollowed eyes can be caused by deyhydraion and lack of sleep. To treat this condition Dr. Rodriguez-Feliz recommends HA fillers. “HA fillers are great to create a smoother transition from the lower eyelids to the cheeks. Patients that are looking for a longer lasting solution could benefit from micro fat-grafts combined with platelet-rich plasma injected to the tear trough area,” said Dr. Rodriguez-Feliz.
Problem: Puffy Eyes
Solution: At-Home Remedies
Opting for at home remedies to reduce the appearance of puffy and swollen eyes is also an option for those with temporary issues. “The use of cold green tea bags, cucumbers, or metal ball rollers to increase movement of the fluid drainage away from the lower eyes can help with puffy eyes,” said Dr. Shokeen. However, using these remedies should be applied as gently as possible to avoid breaking any vessels around the eye area.
