Nobody wants a double chin. Luckily for you, Haute Living has the exclusive scoop on how to fit the issue in NYC. The first and only FDA-approved injectable drug is finally here.
Unanimously recommended for approval, KYBELLA, formerly known as ATX-101, is an injectable drug that contours and improves the appearance of submental fullness due to submental fat. Created by Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Inc., the drug was approved by the FDA in April and became available June 19th to dermatologists and plastic surgeons who completed training at the drug company’s facilities. Training began earlier this month, with an extensive training program to begin later this summer.
So how does the non-surgical treatment works? When administered into the fat below the skin, KYBELLA destroys the fat cells. Patients can receive up to 50 injections in one single treatment, with up to six treatments administered no less than one month apart.
According to Kythera Biopharmaceuticals Inc., during clinical trials patients’ experienced visible results in two to four treatments. Treatments resulted in high patient satisfaction. In fact, 79 percent of patients reported satisfaction with their appearance regarding their face and chin. When asked how happy, bothered, self-conscious, embarrassed, old and overweight they felt following treatment in relation to the amount of their submental fat, patients reported improvement in the visual and emotional impact of submental fat.
“Many people complain that a double chin makes them feel older and heavier than they actually are,” said Frederick C. Beddingfield, III, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer, KYTHERA. “With KYBELLA, for the first time, people have access to a non-surgical solution to address this long-standing but common aesthetic complaint. KYBELLA causes the destruction of fat cells, so once the aesthetic response is achieved, retreatment is not expected.”
