Tips to Keep Your Makeup Fresh in the Summer Heat

Wellness June 29, 2015 By Taylor Neverman

The summer is a time for shorts, swimsuits and enjoying the sun in every way possible. All the heat is fun and everything, but how do you keep your makeup from running down your face?

Here are some tips to make sure you look your best, whether you’re sunbathing at the beach, shopping in the humidity, or stuck in a hot, stuffy office.

SPF

The sun can cause a lot of problems for your skin, so having makeup with SPF in it is crucial in maintaining blemish-free skin. “It is very important to use a face cream that has SPF in it,” makeup artist, Cassandra Ferguson, said. Ferguson recommends Rodan + Fields Reverse broad spectrum SPF 50 + sunscreen to keep your skin feeling fresh, protected and smooth.

Foundation

A good foundation can help oily skin look fresh all day and dry skin stay hydrated. Tarte has a clay-tinted moisturizer with an SPF of 20 that works great for dry skin. For oily skin, a powder foundation is better, like Tarte’s Amazonian Clay Full-Coverage Airbrush foundation. A powder foundation covers the shiny parts while providing full coverage to hide blemishes and uneven tone.

Waterproof

Waterproof products won’t sweat away, which means it should be a part of each step of the makeup applying process — from the foundation to the mascara during the summer months.

Some of our favorite products to use are the waterproof selections of Urban Decay. The 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, the 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil, and the Cannonball mascara are a great combo for both beach and high-humidity days.

Now, we know waterproof can be frustrating when removing, but that doesn’t have to be the case. There are a lot of wipes, liquids, and so on. We use the makeup removing wipes by Neutrogena, which work really well.
