Over the past year, there have been a multitude of cutting-edge improvements in the world of medicine. Whether it be QWO, the first-ever FDA-approved injectable for cellulite in the buttock, or the accelerating teeth straightening plans, these advancements have made strides for experts and patients alike.
As the year comes to a close and we enter 2022, it is time to discuss New Year's resolutions. Instead of focusing on what are usually personal resolutions, Haute Beauty sat down with Haute Beauty experts to discuss specialized, broader resolutions. Here's what they had to say:
Dr. Kiran Gill | Body | Naples
Moving into 2022, my resolutions for the plastic surgery specialty reflect the overall mission of our Naples, Florida-based practice: we will provide patients with a state-of-the-art treatment environment as well as the assurance of personalized care and attention. This means continuing to refine and evolve a natural, personalized approach to beauty using a combination of surgical and non-surgical treatments—including the latest in cutting-edge technologies—through ongoing training, research, and the pursuit of excellence.

What a great question! Cosmetic dentistry is so elevated and amazing at this point combining beauty and technology at such a high level. The main change I would love to see and communicate is the perception of cosmetic dentistry. So often people think it is for movie stars or just about making teeth look pretty but most of the time we are restoring function to the teeth and mouth. If teeth need aesthetic improvement, it is usually because they have had decay and restorations over time, or have wear and tear because the patient has bite issues compromising the structure of the teeth. When we restore the old unsightly restorations or the bite to a healthier function, then the aesthetics naturally follow. I always say we are doing the dentistry you need to have done, the bonus is the aesthetics.
I want more people to understand this so they know cosmetic dentistry is for everyone, it isn’t just for the rich and famous it is what everyone deserves when they have dentistry. With that said, most people also think they could never afford this kind of dentistry but we have so many ways to fit it into a comfortable monthly budget so you can choose the care you want not just get the dentistry you need to have done. With so much technology available doing virtual consults is great for exactly this! Patients can reach out and send a couple of photos and I can give them the possibilities and a ballpark of what the cost and number of appointments would be. This really gives people a great idea of how the process works. Cosmetic dentistry can give you a huge facial aesthetic rejuvenation with no downtime or healing time leading to fast results. Who wouldn’t want that?

With so many aesthetic procedures and injectables in the market make sure you get the best treatment for you. What might work for someone else doesn’t necessarily mean it will work for you. Stay true to yourself and take good care of your face and skin because you get to wear it every day. New year, same you, just a better version!

As my resolution for my specialty, I hope patients soon understand that with age, noninvasive lasers, Botox, and fillers will no longer solve the problems which facelifts can easily address.

New year resolution is weightless in cosmetic surgery without daily accountability. Because our vision is to promote your truest and highest self each day, every day is a resolution. It sounds cliché but the daily application of full effort to be a better person is the best new year’s resolution for cosmetic surgery. Thus, cosmetic surgery's new year resolution is to be more intentional daily and to put your best foot forward.

The approach of a new year brings reflection on the past and resolution for the future. In the past year, plastic and reconstructive surgeons have helped millions of patients look and feel better after experiencing weight loss, aging, cancer, injury, or the desire to improve themselves despite the pandemic. With ongoing research and innovation within the field, the future is bright for plastic and reconstructive surgery. Here are three resolutions for the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery in 2022:
Continue to adapt to best serve our patients during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Though we may wish to leave COVID-19 behind in 2021, it will inevitably be a factor in our lives in 2022. Plastic and reconstructive surgeons have risen to the challenge to serve patients throughout the pandemic. In 2022, we must continue to adapt and utilize technology and telemedicine to ensure all patients remain safe and cared for.
Advance the field through innovative research, especially for difficult clinical conditions. Plastic and reconstructive surgeons around the world are continuously collaborating to help more patients and to make surgery safer and more reliable. In 2022, we must continue these endeavors in order to keep advancing the field and improving the results we can offer to our patients. Time-honored procedures will continue to prevail, however, newer techniques may be carefully studied for their effectiveness, especially for difficult to treat clinical conditions.
Make plastic surgery safer through education. Plastic surgery will likely continue to grow in popularity in 2022. Board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery is the gold standard certification to ensure that a surgeon has received comprehensive training in plastic and reconstructive surgery. In 2022, plastic surgeons must continue to educate the public about the importance of seeing a certified surgeon in an accredited facility to ensure that patients have a safe and effective surgical experience. Continuing medical education is a hallmark of board certification that lasts a lifetime and career.

Intern Rajeshwari Rawal, Dr. Shamila Rawal | Hair Restoration | Wisconsin
With the new year around the bend, we are all starting to plan our resolutions (and even hope to keep them for more than two days!). At The Rawal Institute, ours is a resolution that holds true year-round and is renewed each January 1: to provide our patients with the most up-to-date, evidence-based medical knowledge and tools to feel good in their own skin. We strive to REFRESH, not replace. Just as people may resolve to eat better or work out more in the new year, beautiful, healthy skin and hair require whole-body approaches that are built step by step and sustained for the long term. As a result of ongoing training and participation in annual scientific meetings for the staff, treatment plans are not only customized to our patient's needs, they are also state-of-the-art.

My resolutions for my specific specialty are to continue to advance the work that we are doing to meet the changing needs of our patients. The primary mission of my practice is “Improving Lives by Inspiring Confidence.” We do this by providing incredible results using cutting-edge techniques individualized to the patient. This is combined with an emotional connection that we achieve without patients. Our goal is to not only provide an amazing result but an exceptional experience. As we begin 2022, we will continue our resolve to determine the best ways to offer our patients the experience and results they desire.

Run my 2 miles and do a quick little (but intense) workout every day 7-365 (now if I end up actually getting my run/workout in only 355 days this year, I will still call that a win). The whole process is the first thing I do every morning and sets me up to have my best day - absolutely. I am definitely in my best mood, am more productive, eat better that day, and it keeps me healthy. I live on a hilly country road that has a creek a mile from my house - I run to the creek and back - two miles - not hard. No matter what the temperature or rain (or snow) conditions, once I am out there, there is always something amazing I experience about the physical outdoor day, some wildlife, or sunrise, stars...something. Right now my daily "workout" when I get back from my little run is 300 crunches, 80 push-ups, and some stretching - again, this workout takes a minimal amount of time - like 5 minutes if I really just go at it. I have been doing this workout daily for several decades, and it remains my #1 daily priority because it pays the biggest dividends. This is how I keep my mind right before heading into the office.
