Professor Dr. Bankole Johnson (2013 – 2019) served as The Dr. Irving J. Taylor Professor and Chair in the Department of Psychiatry, and Professor of Anatomy & Neurobiology, Medicine, Neurology, and Pharmacology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He directs all brain sciences across multiple departments at the School under the aegis of the Brain Science Research Consortium Unit, which grew in NIH funding from $21M-$35M from 2013-2018. Professor Johnson serves as the Director of the Clinical Neurobehavioral Center in Columbia. Professor Johnson is a licensed physician and board-certified psychiatrist. He is the Principal Investigator on National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded research studies from basic science to molecular and clinical studies and has been funded continuously for over two decades. Haute MD expert Dr. Bankole Johnson explains how the “Superhuman” protocol is designed to optimize performance, heal injury, retard aging, and promote the highest level of physical and mental conditioning possible.

Even the finest and most accomplished athletes are only optimized to about 30% of their metabolic capacity. What if it were possible to reach a much higher optimization level using advanced technology, without the need for medicines or drugs? Indeed, this technology is here today and is known as the “Superhuman” protocol.

The critical element of the “Superhuman” Protocol is the combination of the correct sequence of electromagnetism, Oxygen therapy under higher concentration, and light therapy in the proper sequence. Let’s explore how these changes to optimize the body can be affected.

Electromagnetism

Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) technology has been more researched by NASA (1) and the doctors supporting the space program perhaps more than just about any other available technology. Indeed, the use of PEMF has proliferated into devices to improve a variety of human conditions (2).

In healthy cells, the intracellular voltage is estimated to be about -20 to -25 millivolts (and the electrochemical gradient across the cell membrane ranges from -40MV to -80MV). As individuals, we start to feel unwell when the intracellular voltage drops below -20 millivolts, and cellular healing becomes inefficient, and inflammation can be the consequence (3). Cancer cells have been reported to have a lower intracellular voltage compared with healthy cells (3). PEMF therapy induces a small electromagnetic current to damaged cells to increase blood flow and decrease pain by reducing inflammatory mediators (4). PEMF might enable cells to use nutrients more efficiently by increasing ion transport, a method by which cells communicate with one another, to enhance energy production, which is essential for cellular repair.

PEMF machines differ in power and capability. Whilst some are very powerful, others are gentler in the application. High power PEMF can be used to aid rapid recovery to recent sports injuries to accelerate healing such that the athlete can return to full exercise in literally hours rather than days. Low power PEMF enhances blood flow to all regions of the body, especially those that are injured. Research suggests that, perhaps, one of the best ways to deliver PEMF is through the PureWave technology. During the administration of the PureWave technology (5), the client simply lays on the mat and rests, whilst the cells of the body are “recharged”. Unlike other high-power systems, this product can be used safely by anyone at any age with almost any condition.

Over several millions of years, our earth has lost most of its magnetic properties. Our ancestors could simply walk barefooted and be “recharged” by the earth. Perhaps this is where the phrase “let us take a walk” came from. Unfortunately, we are all laden with garments, shoes, and the background radiation of the earth – all of which make retaining optimal cellular conditioning difficult without the assistance of high technology.

Oxygen

Oxygen powers our cells to release energy. Therefore, once you have completed the PEMF phase of treatment, and “recharged” your cells to be super-active, and increased blood flow to them, it is now important to infuse oxygen under higher concentration than can deliver upwards of 70 liters/min of pure oxygen to reach the cells. Oxygen training, EWOT (Exercise With Oxygen Training) is one of the most efficient methods known to “super-oxygenate” the body. Deconditioned and super athletes alike will see enormous benefits of the EWOT HyperMax™ system (6). For those of us who are not world-class athletes, the EWOT system is a means to encourage “super regeneration” to the cells to heal, fight disease, and enhance immune response. Because EWOT is done after PEMF, the carriage of oxygen in the body is maximized, and so is the release of oxygen to the tissues. Without doing PEMF first, using the EWOT would not be optimized. If your cells have a “low voltage” (low pH), they will be less spaced out, and their ability to receive and uptake oxygen will be reduced significantly because blood flow also is reduced. This may explain why alkaline water, which raises cellular PH, might improve oxygenation to the tissues. PEMF followed by the EWOT HyperMax™ offers an effective protocol that can be accessed by those in the sports medicine field and is known scientifically as the oxygen multistep process.

Light

The third step of the “Superhuman Protocol” is to reduce the naturally formed toxins in the body, which are associated with decreased performance in athletes, and aging and disease in all of us. Despite the folklore, that “what does not kill you strengthens you”, stress is not good for the body. Stress in the body increases the production of both nitric oxide and free radicals or reactive oxygen species (7). Nitric oxide reduces cellular oxidation and, in the brain, leads to a process called nitrergic transmission. This process accelerates cell death, damages our DNA, and is a potent harbinger of aging. Our body and especially our brains can become inflamed through “oxidative stress”. In the body, this can be associated with arthritis, and in the brain, with deterioration of mental functions and increased proneness to Alzheimer’s disease. Indeed, in athletes like ballplayers that may already have some brain impairment due to repeated head injury or concussive events, “oxidative stress” worsens the condition, reducing the number of playing years, and the player’s enjoyment of life afterward.

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is near-infra-red-light therapy that reduces the body’s oxidative stress, thereby promoting rapid healing in the body by decreased inflammation and improved mental functioning. PBMT, known previously as “Low-Level Laser Therapy” or “Low-Level Light Therapy” because the light is applied using a low power laser. It is a non-invasive therapy, and, unlike drugs, it has no side effects. PBMT is not an ablating or heating-based therapy and has been reported widely as being beneficial in prestigious journals like The Lancet and British Medical Journal, and by societies as the International Association for the Study of Pain and the World Health Organization (8). Light Therapy delivers light energy units, in the form of photons, to damaged tissues and cells. These photons, absorbed by the cells, stimulate intracellular mitochondria to accelerate the production of Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), to produce a large boost of energy to the cell. This rapid increase in intracellular energy is used to transform cells by stimulating repair through genetic signaling.

In sum, the “Superhuman” protocol is designed to optimize performance, heal injury, retard aging, and promote the highest level of physical and mental conditioning possible. It achieves this progress through the sequential combination of magnetism, oxygen under high concentration, and light therapy; in essence, and electromagnetism to restore cellular communication and blood flow, oxygenation delivered to yield a higher concentration of oxygen at the level of the cell, and light to decrease the formation of natural toxins – that is, technology-driven anti-oxidation to heal all the cells of the body and aid recovery.

At Casa Privée, a by-invitation-only medical center, we offer the “superhuman” protocol as part of our treatment regimen. If you have not received an invitation to join Casa Privée or are interested in learning more, please call 305-396-6993 or email us at info@casaprivee.com.
