Dr. Karyn Grossman is an internationally renowned, board-certified cosmetic dermatologist with a well-known celebrity following. Trained at Harvard Medical School, she’s considered a key opinion leader in all fields of esthetics and often works on its frontlines to help develop new technologies, fillers and devices. She’s also careful about what she does, and only performs procedures she’d use on herself and her family. Dr. Grossman dishes on her favorite tools that treat the dreaded double chin and skin laxity.

MyEllevate

My Ellevate is the newest tool to treat laxity in the neck. This is used depending on the severity of the laxity in the neck area. People that have very significant looseness would not be a candidate.

It is a minimally invasive procedure done under local anesthesia using a suture to cut the bands in the front of your neck and suspends the muscles and the glands and the skin underneath your neck. Sometimes this is paired with NeckTight, which is another minimally invasive treatment to tighten the skin.

For this procedure, downtime is minimal, at around a week. There some bruising and a bit of swelling, and a collar has to be worn to restrict movement.

Kybella

Is an injectable that addresses the double chin. It requires between two and six in-office treatments, depending on the heaviness of the chin and neck area. Treatments are administered 4 weeks apart and normally take only about 30 minutes each.

Kybella destroys fat cells, so the results of treatment are long-lasting. However, it is advised that you continue a healthy diet and exercise regiment.

CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is typically reserved for younger patients that do not have much skin laxity and a stubborn double chin that oftentimes just genetics. CoolSculpting uses cryolipolysis t to target fat cells without compromising surrounding tissues. This controlled cooling process freezes fat cells, which are then eliminated by the body.

NeckTite

NeckTite is a minimally invasive procedure that uses radiofrequency energy to address excess fat and skin in localized problem areas. a small probe is inserted into the skin. This probe heats both the inner and outer layers of the skin, causing the tissues to contract and jump-starting the body’s natural healing process. Heat is also delivered to the fat cells in the area, causing them to rupture and die. As the probe affects both the skin and fat cells, patients achieve visibly tighter and more youthful-looking skin. It can also be coupled with liposuction for additional fat removal, if necessary.

Recovery for NeckTite is also about a week with some swelling and bruising. Patients will see an immediate result but will get some continued improvement over a few months.

Thermage

Thermage addresses skin laxity in the neck and chin, by using non-invasive radiofrequency waves to improve damaged and aging skin. This treatment has little to no downtime because it is non-invasive.
