The 5 Types of Breast Lift Incisions

  • Crescent

A crescent incision is placed on top of the nipple and areola to lift it a little bit. This is rarely done anymore because it has a tendency to deform the nipple. It can make it elongated and doesn't lift  much to begin with.

  • Periareolar

The periareolar incision is very common in the right patients. When you don't have a lot of excess skin in the lower part of the breast or if it's just a large areola the periareolar incision works very well. Typically, if the patient doesn't have to lift more than about an inch is when it is used.

  • Lollipop

The Lollipop breast lift is one of the more common lifts. It addresses the lower skin in the lower part of the breast as well as the nipple position. You can lift the nipple more than what you can with the periareolar incision. The scar is called the lollipop because there is a circle around the areola and then a line that comes down to the fold underneath the breast.

  • There are 2 types of anchor breast lifts

The first type is reserved for unique situations where the patient has excess skin in the lower part of the breast but the nipple is in a good position.

The second type of anchor incision involves a circular incision around the areola, a verticle scar that comes down to the fold, and then a scar that goes hidden in the fold underneath the breast. This is used when there is significantly more excess skin than what can be safely removed with a lollipop incision. This is also for larger reductions, with excess skin there are more incisions necessary in order to get the breast to look perky.
