HB: How does an in-office whitening treatment work?

To achieve the most dramatic results, in-office teeth whitening is recommended, teeth typically can get three to eight shades brighter in a 30-60 minute session. An application of a whitening gel containing hydrogen peroxide is applied to the teeth, these agents are activated by an ultraviolet lamp to lighten both the enamel and dentin stains.

HB: Who is the best candidate for an in-office whitening treatment

Healthy teeth is always a top priority, so having healthy teeth and gums is important. For instance, Patients with periodontal disease, tooth decay, cavities and exposed roots also who are allergic to teeth bleaching whitening agents like peroxide may not be ideal candidates.

If a patient has multiple restorations such as fillings, implants, crowns and dental bridges teeth whitening may not be the solution for whiter teeth as this procedure would not react on those materials. It is always recommended to have your teeth professionally cleaned prior to the visit to have the optimal results

HB: How does an in-office whitening compare to the over-the-counter methods?

Over the counter teeth whitening products are milder than in-office whiteners, they don't make teeth as sensitive. While they don't work as efficiently, they may be the best option for patients with teeth sensitivity.

HB: What does after-care look like?

The first 24 hours you would want to avoid eating anything that would stain a white t-shirt, ie: blueberries, soy sauce, red wine.
