Yay or Nay: Feather Brows Fluttering on Instagram

2

Sometime last week, artist Stella Sironen posted on Instagram a note to herself, “When you make a joke about starting a funny brow trend people will take it seriously and … well, start the trend.”

The caption described an image with close to 40,000 likes that captures Sironen’s odd conception of feather brows.

To achieve the look the Helsinki-based makeup artist parted her brows along the middle of their arc and slicked the hairs with glue stick up and down in the semblance to a feather.

Sironen said she drew inspiration from a 19-year old man who identifies himself as Leevi on the picture-sharing platform and whom she regards as “her muse.” Leevi’s feathered brow, however, garnered only a little over 700 likes, leaving it to Sironen’s influencer status (she has over 50,000 followers) to spread the nascent trend.

In less than a week, feather-styled brows fluttered on thousands of posts. While thick and bushy brows make for an expressive interpretation of the latest social-media beauty fad, thin and sparse brows also carry potential.

Ingeniously split brows might be enough for some users, but others have preened the trend a notch higher, adorning their facial feathers with eyeshadows and glitter.

No everyone, however, is succumbing to the craze, which has reaped proclamations like “the ugliest thing I have ever seen,” “please, stop” and “how about NO.”

Truth be told, feather eyebrows will not fly on anyone. If you feel bold, though, give them a flap – just for the fun of it.
