The Treatment Of Neck Wrinkles At-Home Versus In A Plastic Surgery Office

Neck wrinkles, tech neck, vertical neck lines or bands, and generalized neck lines are not haute. As we age, we lose collagen and elastin which causes our skin to weaken. When adding in environmental factors such as sun exposure, smoking, and repetitive motions and activities that contract the neck muscles, the appearance of neck wrinkles intensifies. To prevent neck wrinkles, we sat down with Haute Beauty expert Dr. Ira Savetsky to discuss the ways to treat them at-home versus in his New York City office.

At-Home Treatment

The best way to prevent neck wrinkles is by staying hydrated, following a healthy diet, and implementing a great daily skincare regimen that includes at least 30 SPF. With your skincare regimen, there are some essential ingredients to look for when purchasing products to use at home. These include Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and ceramides.

Vitamin A increasecell turnover which sheds rougher and less healthy skin, making room for new, healthy and smoother skin. Vitamin C promotes collagen production and increases the elasticity of the skin. Ceramides act as a skin barrier and help keep the skin hydrated by preventing the loss of moisture while shielding the skin from environmental toxins.

In-Office Treatment

In-office treatments for neck wrinkles are tailored to the underlying cause. My preferred treatment for horizontal neck lines (‘tech neck’) is a combination of blended hyaluronic acid and microdroplet neurotoxin (i.e., BOTOXÒ). The hyaluronic acid fills the line and the neurotoxin helps relax the muscle around it which ultimately softens the crease. For the thicker vertical lines or bands, my preference is to directly inject them in several different areas with neurotoxin. These bands are from the platysma muscle itself and injecting them directly weakens them, causing them to relax and become less apparent. For generalized, more superficial neck wrinkles, resurfacing methods such as lasers, microneedling, and chemical peels eliminate lines and improve the color and texture of the skin.
