Keke Palmer is known for her down-to-earth personality and always keeping it real, and when it comes to being vocal about her skin, she doesn’t fall short there either. The star struggled with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and cystic acne, which she shared via her Instagram in 2020. While she still hasn’t figured out exactly how to combat her struggles with acne, she has developed a skin-care routine that’s helped her immensely, along with a positive mindset to get her through.

Palmer let Allure in on everything she’s learned through her skincare journey. One thing that's helped her manage her acne is professional help. She tells Allure, “Obviously, I would say it’s expensive, but one of the things that helped me the most is going to see an esthetician, just because they’re constantly working on it and helping you every step of the way.” Aside from an esthetician, she has a few products she swears by that help her get by Renee Rouleau Rapid Response Detox Masque and Triple Berry Smoothing Peel, MDacne’s cleanser, and Estee Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair Serum. “I love doing that routine throughout my week. It just helps, I feel like, really decongest the skin,” Palmer says.

The actress is also big on incorporating additional wellness methods aside from her specific skincare routine. She’s a fan of journaling to tend to her mental health, “I love journaling. It helps me so much to get my feelings, my thoughts, and all that kind of stuff out.” She also makes sure to be graceful with herself and give herself time to breathe when it comes to her busy schedule, “I really try to be intentional with my schedule in terms of what I’m gonna allow to happen all in one day. Sometimes all you need is a good nap.”

Palmer discusses the many stressors of having a life in the spotlight, one of them being the digital sphere of our lives and how easy it is to be misunderstood online. “You tweet one thing, or say one wrong thing… it doesn’t matter if you’re John Doe, everybody, I think, has a little bit of fear. When you’re an entertainer it’s that same feeling just a little bit heightened. I try to do the best I can. Somebody is always gonna have something to say about you, so you just got to be OK with it.” Keke is truly doing it all and she’s getting by all with the help of a killer skincare routine and a little bit of journaling.
