In order to understand what makes a person successful, we must first examine our own selves. What are we doing or not doing that may hamper our success? There are several moving parts to the success equation and Haute Beauty expert Dr. Deepa Verma is here to share them all.
The Success Equation
First, I always tell my patients that even though spontaneity is fun and unpredictable, staying grounded is what keeps us on track. Have daily routines and habits. Establishing daily habits such as morning and nighttime routines will allow you to exert control over certain aspects of your life. Whether at home or traveling, having habits and routines offer a sense of comfort. There are so many things we cannot control in our lives, but habits are something we consciously choose to control. Once habits get engrained, they will transform into discipline. Discipline is the ultimate key to success, in my opinion. Without discipline, we would be unable to stay motivated and turn failures into successes.
Mental and physical health should coexist in harmony. When three is synergy of the mind and body, we feel grounded and at ease. In my integrative/anti-aging practice, I teach my patients my four pillars of an optimal lifestyle which are a clean diet, exercise, restorative sleep, and stress reduction. By implementing these four pillars, one can liken it to four wheels on a car. All the tires need to be about equal in pressure and integrity to get from point A to B. This is the journey to wellness of the mind-body-spirit.
When someone asks me when the best time in my life was, I reply that every day I wake up feeling better than the day before. Expecting life to go downhill is only inviting negativity and succumbing to aging. If we view optimal aging as part of life and something that we can, in fact, do gracefully, then our whole perspective shifts to that of a positive outlook on life.
Here are some daily habits that keep me feeling prime all the time:
- Practicing gratitude
- Warm lemon water in the morning
- Immersion in nature and getting sunshine
- Physical activity/exercise
- Laughing often
- Cold showers and warm baths
- Meditation and deep breathing
- Seven hours of sleep consistently
- Reading a good book or listening to music
- Social media breaks
- Cooking healthy meals
