HB: What are Porcelain Inlays/Onlays?
An inlay is a porcelain filling that can replace your old metal fillings and additionally be used to fill a cavity. A porcelain onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited for more extensive areas of coverage it a conservative way to treat the tooth and still preserve most of the tooth’s structure.
HB: How does Porcelain Inlays/Onlays work?
Our office is equipped with the State-of-the-art CEREC unit. This computerized machine allows me to design custom restorations which is completed in one visit. The procedure begins with making a 3-D digital scanned model of the tooth being treated. This process is painless. The image is saved in a computer and an Inlay/only is then designed right before your eyes using the absolute most advanced technology in the world. The software allows me to customize and design every precise detail of your restoration process. After the fabrication process the porcelain inlay/only is cemented into the missing tooth surface.
HB: Who is the best candidate for this?
A dental x-ray is taken and examination for tooth decay is performed – if the diagnostic image reveals that you have a cavity you may be an ideal candidate for a Porcelain inlay or onlay.

HB: How does this treatment compare to others of the same nature?
Most offices are still placing mercury (amalgam) or plastic (composite) fillings. However, if a porcelain filling is done this usually requires two or more visits to the dentist.
HB: What does recovery look like?
Since this procedure is completed in one visit there is no downtime, you can return to work and normal activities.
