De Kooning Painting To Be Sold At Bonhams Auction

News | November 6, 2009

Attention Art Lovers: Bonhams New York will present a rare work of Willem de Kooning from the 1950s, Woman in a Landscape, as part of their upcoming Contemporary and Modern Art Sale.

The Dutch-born painter is mostly known for his work with women and landscapes. He is most noted for his painting Woman I, which propelled him into instant success in New York in 1953.

This is a rare and fully executed painting for de Kooning during this period in 1965.  Considered one of his softer, and gentler representations of the female sex, this painting also reflects traces of de Kooning’s inner demons.

Pre-sale viewing is open to the public and reception of all works in this sale will be on Monday Nov. 9th from 6-8pm.

Woman in a Landscape is estimated at $400,000-$600,000. The actual sale will take place on November 10th at 12pm.

Bonhams is located on 580 Madison Avenue, New York, NY 10022. For more information visit Bonhams.com/contemporary.
