3 Bedrooms and a Little Piece of History on Fifth Avenue
Former Bank of New York CEO, Thomas Renyi, and his wife recently closed on a three bedroom apartment at 920 Fifth Avenue. The home went for 7.55 million, which was a significant discount from the 10 million asking price of April 2008.
The building was designed by architect J.E.R. Carpenter, whose work redefined the Upper East Side during the first decades of the twentieth Century. He designed over a dozen buildings on Fifth Avenue alone. 920 must have been special though, because Carpenter chose to live there from 1924 until his death in 1932.
In 1941, another famous resident moved in. Film actress Gloria Swanson lived at 920 Fifth Avenue while she filmed her most famous as role Norma Desmond in the 1950 film Sunset Boulevard.
63 year old Reyni was the Chairman and CEO of the Bank of New York for over a decade before he retired last year. He oversaw the RBS Trust and Pershing acquisitions in 1998 and 2003 respectively.
