Haute 100 Miami Update: Dwyane Wade

What Makes Him Haute: The Chicago native came to Miami in 2003 when he was selected fifth overall in the NBA draft. He has been a force for the Heat ever since, earning a spot on the All-Rookie Team his first season. He went on to lead the team to its first NBA World Championship in 2006 and got crowned MVP, and then led Team USA to a gold medal in the Olympics. Today, Wade continues to wow the crowds with his athletic prowess. Equally impressive off the court, he has earned respect for his strong community involvement helping at-risk youths through his Wade’s World Foundation

What Makes Him Haute Now: While Wade is in physical therapy from a pulled right hamstring that resulted from the Heat’s Tuesday night premiere against the Pistons, he remains loyal to his teammates and city as he continues the preseason tour.

“I know the offense, I know the defense and I know these guys,” Wade said. “Me fitting in won’t be a problem at all… We’re still building something here, off the court as well as on the court. We’re getting to know everybody and I’m still a teacher. I can teach these guys and get my therapy while I’m there, so I wouldn’t even think about not traveling.”

The Heat will be up against Oklahoma City (in Kansas City) Friday night and will play San Antonio this weekend. Wade could miss two weeks of play, so for now, he’ll use his experience and knowledge of the game and the Miami Heat to assist his teammates as he sits off court.
