Bridging Worlds: Arsenio Diaz’s Mystical Sitar Journey

Arsenio Diaz is a musician whose work transcends borders, both geographical and artistic. His journey from classical guitar mastery in Cuba to becoming a celebrated sitar player and a pioneer of ethno-convergence in the United States is a testament to his passion for building bridges between cultures.

Diaz received a degree in Music and Classical Guitar in Cuba in 2003. After settling in the USA, his path took a significant turn when he was hired as a classical guitar instructor at Miami Dade College and, crucially, was accepted as a student by Bharti D. Chokshi, the executive president of the Association of Performing Arts of India (APAI). Under her tutelage and through workshops led by the prestigious musician Alam Khan, Diaz immersed himself in the world of sitar and Indian classical music.

This unique background fueled his creative mission: fusing traditional Indian tunes with melodies and rhythmic patterns from the Afro-Cuban repertoire. His music is an intentional effort to educate, inspire, and unite people, bringing awareness to the necessity of preserving heritage and traditions across the spectrum of humanity.

Arsenio Diaz’s continuous dedication to his art and community is evident in his collaborations with excellent organizations, including the Miami Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Faena Art, and Miami Light Project.

His contributions have been formally recognized with the prestigious Miami Individual Artists (MIA) grant program for four consecutive years (2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025), an award from the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs. Most recently, his work received international acclaim in 2025 when his track, “La Rumba de Sandokan,” was awarded Best of Pangea – World Music by the InterContinental Music Awards (ICMA), recognizing his outstanding musical talent on a global stage.
