Pebble Beach, California – August 2025 – For the first time in history, all eight generations of the Rolls-Royce Phantom will stand together in one breathtaking display at the 2025 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This unprecedented moment marks the 100th anniversary of the Phantom, the most enduring and prestigious nameplate in ultra-luxury motoring.

First introduced in 1925 as the successor to the Silver Ghost, the Rolls-Royce Phantom was envisioned to set a new benchmark for engineering excellence, technical sophistication, and bespoke craftsmanship. Over the past century, eight distinct generations have upheld and redefined that standard, each one becoming a symbol of automotive perfection in its own era.

This centennial celebration will be showcased in a specially curated “Phantom Centenary Class,” bringing together six historically significant examples and two additional modern commissions provided by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars — a Phantom VII Coupé and Phantom VIII Platino. This union will create the first-ever photo and video collection featuring all eight generations in one frame.

The Eight Generations of Phantom

Phantom I (1925–1931) – 1929 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Brewster Ascot Phaeton

Produced in both the UK and the United States, the Phantom I combined advanced engineering with elegant coachbuilt bodies. This Springfield-built Brewster Ascot Phaeton is one of just 21 examples ever produced. It features polished aluminum beltlines, 21-inch wire wheels, and roll-up windows — a rare modification by Murphy Coachworks of Pasadena. Delivered in October 1929, it remains a pristine example of transatlantic craftsmanship.

Phantom II (1929–1935) – 1934 Phantom II Continental Gurney Nutting Sedanca Drophead Coupé

The Phantom II was the last of the 40/50 HP models and is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful cars of its era. This example, one of only 18 produced to Gurney Nutting’s striking design, sits on the Continental chassis for improved performance and handling, blending grace and dynamism in a way unmatched in the 1930s.

Phantom III (1936–1939) – 1937 Phantom III H.J. Mulliner Sedanca de Ville

The only pre-war Rolls-Royce with a V12 engine, the Phantom III was also the final model influenced by Henry Royce himself. This H.J. Mulliner Sedanca de Ville is famed for its commanding yet elegant lines, often described as gothic in presence. It won Best of Show at Pebble Beach in 1957 and is now returning as part of this historic gathering.

Phantom IV (1950–1956) – 1954 Phantom IV Hooper Landaulet

Reserved exclusively for royalty and heads of state, just 18 Phantom IVs were ever built. This Hooper Landaulet was designed for royal touring, with a luxurious open rear compartment for ceremonial appearances. The design was so significant that Queen Elizabeth II’s royal yacht Britannia was engineered to carry a Phantom IV on overseas visits.

Phantom V (1959–1968) – 1961 Phantom V James Young Touring Sedanca

The Phantom V carried forward the grandeur of Rolls-Royce’s coachbuilt tradition. This particular example, one of only 11 Sedancas by James Young, is one of just four right-hand-drive touring limousines. It marked the twilight of the classic chauffeur-driven era, where design was as much about prestige as performance.

Phantom VI (1968–1991) – 1972 Phantom VI Mulliner Park Ward State Landaulette

Built for ceremonial occasions, the Phantom VI was the last model to use a separate chassis and body construction. This example is the only left-hand-drive Phantom VI State Landaulette ever made, featuring an electrically operated convertible top for formal state use. It stands as a rare reminder of Rolls-Royce’s bespoke state car heritage.

Phantom VII (2003–2016) – 2009 Phantom VII Coupé

The first Phantom of the modern Goodwood era, the VII brought the marque into the 21st century while maintaining timeless Rolls-Royce luxury. The Coupé version, produced in very limited numbers, is the most driver-focused Phantom of its generation. Its V12 engine, fastback design, and handcrafted interior make it one of the rarest modern Rolls-Royces.

Phantom VIII (2017–Present) – 2023 Phantom VIII Platino

The latest evolution of Phantom continues the tradition of peerless luxury. The ultra-exclusive Platino edition, limited to just 10 commissions worldwide, features platinum-inspired detailing, a bespoke silk interior, and advanced technology paired with a twin-turbo V12 engine. It represents the pinnacle of modern bespoke craftsmanship.

From the polished aluminum of the 1929 Phantom I to the silk-lined refinement of the 2023 Phantom VIII, each generation tells a story of innovation, artistry, and unmatched prestige. Together, they create a living chronicle of a century-long journey — and for one unforgettable moment at Pebble Beach, all eight will share the same stage.

Full photography and video, including the one and only image of all eight generations united, will be released on August 18, 2025, following the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
