Porsche Design has unveiled its latest horological masterpiece, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition, a bold tribute to five decades of innovation in both watchmaking and automotive design. Crafted entirely from uncoated titanium, this timepiece reflects the pure, utilitarian ethos of Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche’s design legacy. As the man behind both the Porsche 911 and the original Chronograph I in 1972, F. A. Porsche believed that form should always follow function—a philosophy that continues to drive the brand’s design language today.

Limited to just 350 pieces, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition honors the uncoated stainless-steel Chronograph released in 1975, which followed the groundbreaking all-black model from three years prior. This new iteration marks the first time an uncoated titanium version of the Chronograph 1 has been offered outside of Porsche car-owner exclusives, making it a significant release for collectors and enthusiasts alike.

Debuting at the Watches of Switzerland SoHo flagship in New York, the launch also signals the beginning of a strategic retail partnership between Porsche Design and the Watches of Switzerland Group. This collaboration promises to bring Porsche Design timepieces to a broader American audience through select luxury locations and a premium digital presence. According to Stefan Buescher, CEO of the Porsche Lifestyle Group, the partnership celebrates Porsche Design’s rich history while positioning the brand at the forefront of modern luxury watchmaking.

The Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition draws clear inspiration from the dashboard of the iconic Porsche 911. Its matte-black dial, white numerals, and indices deliver high contrast for easy readability, while the red stop-seconds hand adds a punch of color and precision. Super-LumiNova® accents on the baton-style hands and hour markers ensure visibility in all lighting conditions. The updated minute hand is tipped for enhanced accuracy, sweeping across the outer minute track with defined clarity.

At the heart of the watch lies the Porsche Design Caliber WERK 01.240 movement—a COSC-certified chronograph with a flyback function. This allows for swift, continuous timing with a single push of a button, a nod to the tool-watch functionality that Porsche Design pioneered in the 1970s. A bilingual date display in both German and English adds to its practical appeal. Surrounding the dial is a tachymeter scale integrated into the matte-black rehaut, emphasizing both form and function.

The case is glass bead-blasted titanium, offering a refined matte finish that underscores the material’s inherent strength and subtle elegance. The same treatment extends to the titanium bracelet and folding clasp, which features fine adjustment capabilities and is engraved with the historic Porsche Design icon. Every detail of the watch evokes high-performance engineering—down to the solid titanium crown and engraved caseback, which proudly bears the “Flyback Automatic” inscription, edition number, and a commemorative “1975” marking.

Each piece comes presented in an exclusive Limited Box, accompanied by a commemorative plaque engraved with the edition number and the signature of Professor F. A. Porsche. Handcrafted at Porsche Design’s Swiss watch manufactory in Solothurn, the 1975 Edition exemplifies the meticulous attention to detail and engineering precision for which the brand is globally revered.

Retailing at $9,650, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is now available through a curated network of retailers, including Watches of Switzerland SoHo and Hudson Yards in New York, Las Vegas, and Mayors in Florida, as well as Porsche Design stores in California and Miami. Orders can also be placed online at watchesofswitzerland.com and shop.porsche.com.

Following this exclusive drop, Porsche Design plans to release a Numbered Edition with minor design variations, establishing this titanium version as a permanent fixture in the timepiece collection. This strategic rollout speaks to the brand’s commitment to blending collectible heritage with continued evolution.

The Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition is not just a commemorative piece—it is a continuation of a design journey rooted in function, driven by purpose, and executed with uncompromising precision.

With its legacy deeply connected to the Porsche 911 and the mind of a design pioneer, this watch is more than an accessory—it is a wearable piece of history. And for those who appreciate timeless design and high-performance craftsmanship, the Chronograph 1 – 1975 Limited Edition represents a rare opportunity to own a piece of Porsche Design’s storied evolution.
