Hailing from Scotland’s lush River Spey with unparalleled craftsmanship, The Macallan’s single malt whiskey has always been synonymous with the art of nature. This year, the luxury label officially partnered with Art Basel to launch The Macallan M Collection, a range of limited-release whiskeys, including the brand-new M Copper.

Art Basel centers around celebrating every piece’s unique attributes, making it the perfect backdrop to explore the rich M Collection, especially its rising star, the M Copper. The all-new limited-release spirit is the pinnacle of The Macallan’s Six Pillars, which ensures each bottle is a masterpiece with Natural Color, Mastery, Curiously Small Spirit Stills, The Estate, Exceptional Oak Casks, and Sherry Seasoning.

Commemorating the launch of the artful M Collection in the US, The Macallan hosted an immersive private celebration of artistry, craftsmanship, and creativity at The Bass Museum of Art on December 2nd. The event transported guests from the bustle of Miami to the natural beauty of The Macallan Spiritual Home in Speyside, Scotland, through interactive and innovative technology.

The centerpiece of the evening was the Double Spey Cast copper light installation, illuminating the lawn of The Bass as it was unveiled to notable guests such as Rhuigi Villaseñor, Brendan Fallis, and Hannah Bronfman. With its unmistakable essence evoking the purity of liquid, the copper color of the stills, and the richness of the River Spey, the installation was an awe-inspiring testament to the M Collection’s quintessence. Visitors to The Bass during Art Basel had the chance to explore the Double Spey Cast copper light installation from December 3-4, following its sublime reveal.

The beauty of nature is the muse of The Macallan during each step of the whisky-making process, and art prize recipient Jorge Méndez Blake conceived a commission paying homage to this nurturing connection. Blake’s interpretive installation, which will live in perpetuity at The Bass, dismantles the words from two of Mexican poet Jose Juan Tablada’s books on haikus for a new narrative of nature, animals, plants, and references to Miami Beach, where the piece will live. The transcending work will allow viewers to create their own stories with the words for years to come.

A performance extravaganza closed out the evening and put an exclamation point on the affair’s artful origins. British multifaceted artist James Blake performed live against an AI projection mapping, telling the rich history of The Macallan and The M Collection. Dancers from the New York City Ballet, one of the many arts institutions supported by The Macallan, deepened the performance with graceful choreography.
