Alex Sensation Dishes On New Single, “Pa’Lante” With Anitta And Luis Fonsi

Alex Sensation is back again with another destined-to-be, chart-topping hit—this time with Brazilian pop icon Anitta and Latin superstar Luis Fonsi—with the perfect summertime single. Entitled “Pa’Lante”, the trio has put together the ultimate soundtrack for your summer adventures, with a vibrant video to go along with it that was filmed right in Miami Beach. The simultaneous release of the single + video has been highly-anticipated, and for good reason—it is every bit as fun, magical and uplifting as they have promised. Here, we sit down with the multi-talented, world-renowned DJ, musical trendsetter and tastemaker, influencer and artist, Alex Sensation. We learn more about the newly-released single, what it was like working with Anitta and Fonsi, what a day in the life looks like for him and what else he has coming up this year.

HL: We’re very excited about the new release of “Pa’Lante”. Can you tell us a bit about it?

AS: The song is a beautiful song with Anitta from Brazil, Luis Fonsi from Puerto Rico, and it’s produced by Gian from Aruba (he also produced the song “X” with Nicky and Balvin), and my good friend Sean Paul from right here in Miami. So, when we heard the record for the first time, it was in the Aruba language “Patuá”, and the hook was ‘Pa’Lante’—we started translating it and writing it in Spanish. And it became more of a song of positivity. It has a great vibe but also sends a positive message, and I think that’s what really stood out about the record. And the beat makes you dance, it’s a feel-good beat—everything came together beautifully. I first showed it to Anitta and she immediately fell in love with the song, and then I showed it to Fonsi—and he was like, ‘Man, that’s the song!’

HL: What was it like working with Luis Fonsi and Anitta on the track?

AS: They’re beautiful people. They’re two professionals and aside from being professionals, they’re music-lovers. They know what they want in terms of the music and the sounds that they like. It wasn’t easy because I had shown Anitta a few other records, and also Luis, and when they heard this one, it was like it just clicked. In a matter of minutes, they came back and they were like, ‘Yes, let’s do it’! They’re both amazing and they have great energy. When we did the video it was so much fun. Anitta is a firecracker, she’s always on the go and she has this incredible energy, and Luis as well, he’s so great. Pa’lante, pa’lante!

HL: We’d love to know what a day in the life looks like for you. Can you take us through your day, starting with getting up in the morning and ending your day at night?

AS: Of course! I get up every day by 8 a.m., no matter what—even if I did a show the night before, I wake up at 8 a.m. By 10:30 a.m., I’m at the radio station for the show, which runs every day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. I go live for four hours with high energy, and I give so much on the air that by the time I’m done by 3 p.m., I’m drained. So, I rush home if I don’t have to do anything else, I spend time with kids, with my wife, have some fun with my family. And then around 7 or 8 p.m., I go to the recording studio and we start making music and writing. And of course now, with all the different stuff I’m doing, I have to travel a lot. When the weekend comes around, it’s usually the same scenario, but I go straight to the airport and travel for the weekend and get back home on Sunday night.

HL: It sounds like you have mastered a good work-life balance with your career and family. What’s the key to achieving that for you?

AS: I had to learn how to balance them because there was a point where I was so focused on work with radio projects, music, etc., etc. I was not taking care of the family as much and there was a time when my son said ‘I miss you,’ or ‘I miss playing with you,’ and I was away talking to him on the phone, and that stuck with me. I felt so bad. From there it was a rude awakening, and I realized I had to be home more and balance my work life. And of course, FaceTime has become key for when I’m traveling so I can still check in. I actually have a camera that acts almost like a walkie-talkie and every night I can say goodnight to my son before he goes to bed that way, which is really nice for us.

HL: What else do you have coming up this year?

AS: I will be releasing a few more singles this year—many more than in years past. I can’t say too much, but I’m excited about it—you can definitely expect more music coming from me later in the year!
