Burberry and Moda Operandi Host Showing of The Cape Reimagined
Last week Burberry and Moda Operandi celebrated the opening of ‘The Cape Reimagined’ with a private launch event hosted by Moda Operandi Co-Founder Lauren Santo Domingo. Over 70 guests including Helena Christensen, Georgia Fowler, Hayett McCarthy, Amber Anderson, Leigh Lezark, Riley Montana, Indre Rockefeller, Poppy Jamie, Lainey Hedaya, and Zanita Whittington attended the showing at Moda Operandi Madison in Manhattan. First displayed as part of “Henry Moore: Inspiration and Process” at Makers House in London in February, the exhibition has traveled to Seoul and Milan. Following New York, the exhibition will travel to LA and then around the world to cities including Shanghai and Dubai.
The exhibition showcases a curated edit of the limited-edition, made-to-order couture capes first introduced as part of the February 2017 Burberry show finale. Unveiled on the runway during London Fashion Week, Burberry’s February 2017 collection is inspired by the work and personal style of Henry Moore – exploring sculpture and silhouette, material and process, strengthening proportions and hard-wearing fabrics. The artist’s influence is articulated through form, texture and crafted detail, as well as vivid prints referencing his designs from the archive at the Henry Moore Foundation. Each cape has been handmade and references elements from the Burberry archive. The capes, all individually named, were designed in the brand’s London atelier and are available for special order.
‘The Cape Reimagined’ will open next at the Burberry flagship in Kerry Centre, Shanghai, 15-23 April; then go to the Burberry Beverly Hills flagship store on Rodeo Drive from 20-30 April and ïConcrete, Alserkal Avenue, Al Quoz, Dubai, May 3-7
