The Rolex Awards for Enterprise unveiled its 2016 Laureates and Young Laureates at a special evening awards presentation in Los Angeles with one very special host: Oscar-winning director James Cameron.

Cameron was joined by wife Suzy AmisRebecca Irvin (Director of Philanthropic Programs, Rolex), Bertrand Gros (Chairman of Board, Rolex) Michelle MonaghanMaria BelloChris Pine, Casey Affleck, Don Cheadle and National Geographic Explorer-in-Residence Sylvia Earle  at the Dolby Theatre for a cocktail reception, awards presentation and private dinner catered by Wolfgang Puck on Tuesday night.

The focus of the evening was the awards program itself, an international philanthropic program that supports new and ongoing projects by individuals taking on major challenges to benefit mankind, and it has served as a benchmark for corporate philanthropy around the world over for four decades.

Five senior Laureates were honored inlcuding Sonam Wangchuk (polar scientist creating artificial glaciers in the Himalayan region to store water for periods of drought); Andrew Bastawrous (eye specialist who developed a smartphone-based portable eye examination system); Conor Walsh (robotic suit designer); Kerstin Forsberg (biologist protecting giant mantra rays) and Vreni Häussermann (explorer of Patagonian fjords); ten new laureates were also chosen from all over the world for their innovative projects focusing on science, technology, the environment, exploration and cultural heritage.
