Inside Harvey Weinstein’s Sing Street Party
Harvey Weinstein loves Sing Street and you should too.
The movie, a coming-of age story that garnered great pre-release reviews, was directed by John Carney the Irish indie filmmaker (with the Academy and Tony-Award winning Once to his credit), who has been dubbed the master of the modern musical.

Weinstein recently introduced the movie at a Cinema Society screening held at the Metrograph, The film’s stars including Ferdia Walsh-Peelo, Lucy Boynton, Jack Reynor (from Transformers), Aidan Gillen (Game of Thrones,) Mark McKenna, as well as writer/director Carney and producer Anthony Bregman all turned out for the screening and after party at the Hotel Indigo.
The movie follows the 14-year-old character Conor (played by Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) who is looking to escape a difficult home life and attract a girlfriend by becoming part of a band. “Why do guys form rock ‘n’ roll bands? To get a girl,” Weinstein told “CBS This Morning.” “Especially the nerdy guy who has no chance against the athlete.” The girl in this movie is the uber-cool Raphina, played by Lucy Boynton.
In addition to the film’s stars and Weinstein, guests included: Paul Haggis, Courtney Love and Nick Jarecki, Rudy and Judith Giuliani, Melora Hardin (Transparent, The Office), Julie Taymor, Terry George, Doug Liman, David Patrick Kelly (John Wick), Laura Michelle Kelly (Finding Neverland), Christian Campbell and America Olivo, Krystal Brown, Jaime Cepero, Fiona Byrne, Amy Sacco, Gretta Monahan and Ricky Paull Goldin, Prince Dimitri of Yugoslavia, and Andrew Saffir.
