Why Turmeric Is The Haute Spice For Beauty
There seems to be a DIY craze happening in beauty. Many people swear by methods you can find ingredients to right in your kitchen. There was one mask in particular that really piqued my interest, so I gave it a go.
Turmeric, also called “the golden goddess,” is known for having many health benefits, ingested or topically. It’s long been used in Chinese and Indian systems of medicine. It’s uses vary from anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, boosting brain function, fighting depression, to preventing and possibly even treating cancer. Topically, Turmeric helps heal wounds, skin cancer, psoriasis, eczema, acne and decreases the appearance of under eye dark circles. It seems something of a magical spice.
I watched a significant amount of Youtube videos and read many articles about creating a Turmeric face-mask. I was thrilled to try one, all the users were joyous about it’s immediate effects. I made my mixture, applied the mask and set the alarm for 30 minutes, as recommended. I noticed that, even though I had made the mixture properly, it wasn’t drying on my skin, it was dripping! Turmeric is also used as a dye, so this is a potential problem especially if you are anywhere near marble like I was. I decided to continue waiting, even wiping some off – but not much changed for me, it never dried and I ended up washing it off after 30 minutes.
I didn’t see any of the significant changes in skin that the Youtube community was raving about. My skin did feel cleaner, softer and my pores appeared smaller but I do not think I got all the benefits since my mask never dried.
Give it a try and see if you have better results. I am seemingly the only one who this did not work miracles for. I will absolutely try this mask again as the results seem worth it.
Here’s the Recipe:
1 teaspoon of Turmeric
1 teaspoon of raw organic honey
1 teaspoon of milk or natural yogurt
Optional ingredients include:
1 teaspoon of lemon juice (this will aid in lightening your skin)
A few drops of tea tree oil if you suffer from acne
Heads up! This mask leaves your skin a little yellow, I recommend a sugar scrub – this will remove the yellow stain and all you need is to mix sugar with water.
