Boston Weekend in Review: Piranesi, Figawi and a Party on the Harbor

Bostonians came out this weekend to celebrate some fabulous spring events, including a party on the harbor at the Institute of Contemporary Art, a charity ball on Cape Cod, and an exclusive shopping preview at Saks Fifth Avenue. Here’s a peek at what happened here this weekend.

Saks Fifth Avenue (located at 800 Boylston Street) held a three-day Piranesi Trunk Show that ended on Saturday. Shoppers were able to view an exclusive collection of precious gems that featured rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces. The Piranesi collection has been a staple of Saks offering a unique collection of precious jewels that are beautifully set in classic, vintage and estate settings.

On Saturday night, one of the biggest charity balls was held Saturday night at the Hyannis Resort and Conference Center on Cape Cod. Boat lovers, who attended the black tie 29th annual Figawi Charity Ball, enjoyed a memorable night of dancing and dining. Twelve local area restaurants, including The Captains Table, The Yarmouth House, Trevi Café, The Terrace Room at the Hyannis Golf Course, and Oliver’s Restaurant and Planck’s Tavern, were on hand offering samples of their most popular dishes. The real festivities came when Soul Sound Review, Mystique and the Cape Cod Conservatory Jazz Ensemble played as attendees danced the night away. A silent auction raffled off original works for art, sports memorabilia, jewelry and travel. The Figawi Race is one of the biggest Cape Cod traditions as boaters from across the country compete to Nantucket from Hyannis in their sailboats. The late Sen. Ted Kennedy used to sail the Figawi across Nantucket Sound on his schooner, Mya, and helped spread the news of the racing event, which has now become one of the biggest sailboat races on the East Coast. The Figawi Charity Ball attracted more than 1,200 guests this year raising money for local charities.

Also held on Saturday night was one of the biggest dance parties of the season in Boston. The waterfront Party on the Harbor was held at the Institute of Contemporary Art where guests danced under the stars to some of the city’s hottest DJs (DJ Texas Mike, DJ Bianca Oblivion DJ Knife), sipped on an open bar and listened to music from a rocking violinist. The benefit gala raised money for the ICA’s programs, including their performing arts and educational, as well as to support the exhibits on display.

Local Boston favorite comedian Bill Burr wraps up his nine-night performance tonight at The Wilbur located in the Theatre District. His visit to his hometown was special this weekend as he set a new record at the theater for hosting the most consecutive sold-out shows here (19). To celebrate this milestone, The Wilbur is dedicating at permanent seat to him. Burr has appeared in Breaking Bad and will star in the Netflix animated sitcom “F is for Family.”
