Christopher Kane Opens London Flagship
As a prelude to London Fashion Week, which kicks off tomorrow, Scottish designer and fashion week favourite Christopher Kane has unveiled his first ever London store in the trendy Mayfair area.
Rubbing shoulders with the likes of Roland Mouret and Nickolas Kirkwood in the heart of Mount Street, the Christopher Kane store marks the designer’s first foray into a bricks and mortar experience for his customers. “This is the first time we will be able to present the entire universe of what we do and interact directly with our customer, really getting to know and understand them,” he explained to WWD. “The goal is not a signature work of architecture but an environment with an emotional dimension, a space where the focus is on the clothes and on the people connected to them,” he added.
The 4100 sq.ft space, designed by John Pawson, will nevertheless be a treat for visitors, who will be able to marvel at its dramatic staircase, intriguing floor-to-ceiling light installations and timber and perspex accents. The minimalist and conceptual design of the building is set over two floors and builds upon the locale’s original Edwardian elevations, thus creating simple and beautiful open spaces that are very much in line with the designer’s aesthetic. As an extra special treat, London visitors to the store will have the chance to buy from an exclusive range of leather handbags that have been made especially to mark the occasion.
Part of the renowned Kering group, Christopher Kane plans his London flagship as just the beginning in a series of stores set to be rolled out worldwide.
