Haute 100 LA Update: Leonardo DiCaprio Auctions Off Space Trip for $1 Million
Someone (OK, most everyone) sure thinks that Leonardo DiCaprio is out of this world, so much so that he paid $1 million for the chance to fly into space with the Oscar-nominated actor.

Someone (OK, most everyone) sure thinks that Leonardo DiCaprio is out of this world, so much so that he paid $1 million for the chance to fly into space with the Oscar-nominated actor.
For the second year in a row, the 39-year-old auctioned off the opportunity to travel into outer space with him on Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the charity auction amfARaCinema Against AIDS, hosted by amfAR, the Foundation for AIDS Research.
Last year, Russian real estate mogul Vasily Klyukin paid $1.5 million for the opportunity to fly to the moon on Virgin Galactic’s SpaceshipTwo; this year’s high bidder still remains unnamed.
What is clear is that this year’s auction was one of the organization’s most successful fundraising galas of all time. Along with DiCaprio’s space voyage, a 1967 painting of Marilyn Monroe by Andy Warhol and a 1968 painting by Pablo Picasso helped auctioneer Sharon Stone raise nearly $38 million for the charity.
