Haute 100 LA Update: Leonardo DiCaprio to Star in The Revenant
Leonardo DiCaprio‘s latest project is the one which may finally earn him an Oscar.
The 39-year-old actor has signed on to star in The Revenant, a New Regency thriller to be directed by Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu.
The film is an adaptation of the Michael Punke novel The Revenant: A Novel Of Revenge. DiCaprio will play Hugh Glass, a 19th century fur trapper who, after getting attacked by a bear, is left for dead and robbed by his cohorts. After he recovers, he embarks on a revenge mission to pay back his betrayers.
The movie has been in development for more than a decade, but has finally been green lit for a September 2014 shoot date with a planned autumn 2015 release.
Brett Ratner and Paul Green are executive producers; the film will be co-financed by RatPac and Worldview Entertainment.
DiCaprio has been nominated for five Academy Awards, most recently as both an actor and producer on Martin Scorsese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street. His other Oscar nominated roles include 1994’s What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, 2005’s The Aviator and 2007’s Blood Diamond.
