Haute 100 LA Update: Anne Sweeney to be Named the National Champion for Children
Anne Sweeney is likely to receive a few honors before exiting Disney Media Networks as its current co-chair and Disney/ABC Television Group as its President, and she’ll receive the first of her accolades tonight.
Sweeney will be feted as the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ National Champion for Children tonight during a gala event at the Beverly Hilton.
That she should accept an honor from the organization, which provides legal services and training to protect abused and impoverished children, isn’t a surprise; it works closely with The Help Group, where Sweeney’s autistic son is a member.
The Alliance for Children’s Rights protects the rights of impoverished, abused and neglected children and youth. By providing free legal services and advocacy, the Alliance ensures children have safe, stable homes, healthcare and the education they need to thrive. Since its creation in 1992, the organization has served 125,000 children, providing them with permanency through adoption and legal guardianship, access to healthcare and an equitable education.
Sweeney is also a long-time supporter of adoption reform. She even officiated the adoption of Desiree Cornejo, 4, by her grandparents at Edmund D. Edelman Children’s Court in Monterey Park, Calif. this past February.
