The Architecture & Design Film Festival Makes LA Debut

Architecture and interior design enthusiasts are going to find themselves very busy this week now as The Architecture & Design Film Festival makes its LA debut today.

The fest, which is new to Los Angeles but a staple in cities like New York and Chicago, will be a five-day event that takes place at the Los Angeles Theatre Center from March 12-16.

For those who are unfamiliar, this is the nation’s largest film festival celebrating the creative spirit of architecture and design.

This year, 30 films will be showcased, along with panel discussions book signings and Q&A’s with design leaders and film makers from around the world.

ER and Law & Order writer/producer Neal Baer will open the festival with the 85-minute documentary If You Build It, which follows a pair of designers to North Carolina where they work with local high school students to help transform their community through design and architecture.

Other entries include The Oyler House, a profile of Mitch Glazer and Kelly Lynch’s home in Lone Pine designed by Richard Neutra; Coast Modern, which offers a look at West Coast modernist architecture; and Doug Pray’s Levitated Mass, which chronicles a 340-ton boulder’s journey from conceptual inception in 1968 to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s most focal piece of 2012.
