One of London’s most exclusive nightclubs, Mahiki – owned by nightlife impresarios Nick House and Guy Pelly – has risked running the wrath of the fur loving likes of Kim Kardashian and Kate Moss, by banning fur.
The Mayfair hotspot, whose past high profile guests include Prince Harry, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie and Kate Middleton, has teamed up with PETA to put a neo sign above its door tonight (Thursday 27 February) featuring the word ‘fur’ with a slash through it.
Anyone who arrives wearing fur will be refused admission: Mahiki’s legion of staff have been trained how to tell real fur items apart from their faux counterparts. Other guests will be issued “No Fur” badges at the door.
Staunchly anti fur celebrities such as Helen Flanagan, Lucy Watson and Meg Mathews will be attending the one off event. “I’ll definitely be going”, says Mathews. “I love the idea of being able to show how fabulous being fur-free can be.”
Anyone who wants to be ‘in’ needs to know that fur is most definitely ‘out'”, adds PETA’s Mimi Bekhechi. “The hottest trend in fashion is compassion, so we applaud Mahiki for taking a stand against real fur.”
Here at Haute Living, we’re crossing our fingers that other clubs in the capital follow in Mahiki’s anti fur footsteps… and fast.
