Runway Report: Hugh Jackman and Katie Holmes Come Out for Donna Karan 30th Anniversary show.
On an arctic Monday night the fashion army gathered in a raw unheated building on Wall Street to see Donna Karan’s 30th anniversary runway show. Celebrities lined the front row like Katie Holmes, Trudie Styler, Hugh Jackman and Bernadette Peters, all probably shivering too. But things started to boil as a film by Steven Sebring began the festivities. Out of focus shapes morphing into mirror images of themselves- kind of cool and more like video art than film. The music added to the monumental mood and the models stared to strut out fiercely; almost as soldiers marching in decisive unison. First a black grouping with feathered headdresses all cocked to one side. Looks were beaded with jet, or belted with a long tail. Thigh high boots were worn with hot pants, sheer overlays with bra tops beneath.
A coat made of animal skins and fur in stark white was a stand out as was an alluring red group; first in a pony-hide wrap coat followed by dresses in the same stunning shade. It was an awesome reprise of Donna’s talent as a designer who prides herself on encouraging women to be all they can be—with a little help from DK.
